Souls are fucking shit (at least the first one, it's the only one I played and I dropped it after the crystal cave)
a lot of stuff is done right in the game, but not the battle system
and you spend ALL of your playtime fighting monsters in the same boring and tedious way.
fucking roll and smash the attack button, people will say it's not any different from a lot of games but they have other things going for them and the fights don't take all the playtime, most bosses don't even have a proper weakness and you just have to fight them the same way you fight regular monsters, without skimping on estus flask this time

Different anon but to me the areas all feel like they had a checklist of different settings to put into the game. Here's your forest level, but make sure you include a fiery lava level as well. The bosses feel pretty samey and you rarely need to mix up your strategy or try anything new to beat them.
That being said I still enjoy DaS2 a lot, it does a lot of cool things, but it's the weakest in the series for me.
