I got this for $12 off G2A the other day and it's actually pretty fun. The graphics are nice, even if the textures take a while to pop in, there's a decent playerbase that is quite friendly and I haven't come across a single fetch quest yet.
Why did everyone hate this again? Were there launch problems?

It was a full-priced game plus subscription.
My biggest gripe with the last time I played was that crafting and gathering were pretty stupid/worthless.

I heard it got better after some patches and expansions. But last time I looked they still wanted like 50 bucks for it, plus sub fees.

Buy game on steam, use license, refund from steam. Continue to play shitty game for free until they ban your key (which takes a while)

You should have bought it off Steam, I bought a key last year from an external source and they deleted the game off my account 1 month later.
