I had the misfortune of being able to play Fable Legends before it got canned. It was without a doubt the worst game of this generation and would have ended up being on most peoples "worst games ever" lists. Because 2 and 3 didn't really look good. Oh sure, polygon count and shaders went up, but that eerie mannequin look just never worked for me considering how silly the game was supposed to be.
I like Fable 1, ambivalent towards 2, and think 3 was fairly alright, though I still wish they never fastforwarded things so far since I prefer low fantasy more than the industrialization the games did

The Lost Chapters is top tier comfy and is a great game for a playthrough or two every couple years. Really good game all around, combat isn't too bad and the way you can do goals is very varied.

Fable 3 is just meh. Not really too awful but not really good at all. Decent visuals and a somewhat competent story. Probably one of the more ambitious Fable games but they completely lost track of what made the series good in the first place.

Overall a decent series. None of the games are truly bad with the exception of Journey. Original probably has the tightest story, atmosphere, and gameplay. Fable 2 takes everything from Fable 1 and tries to make it better but kinda fucks up, everything feels really floaty and the story is overly serious. Fable 3 is just very bland but the end game has neat mechanics.

I liked 2, roleplayed as a rich playboy manwhore who had one-man orgies in Westcliff every night while my fat wife in Bowerstone stayed thirsty.

Everything about the game was just bad.
The gameplay was laughably bad. It was clunky as fuck, lacked any depth and just felt bad to play. Ever seen that imitation Monster Hunter gif with the dragon and the flip? It made that look good.
The actual game was enter an area, kill monsters, then enter another area over and over again. It wasn't fun, there was no variation, it was just fundamentally bad.
The animations were so bad they made Bethesda look good at animating shit.
The voice acting literally sounded like they hired a bunch of people off of the streets.
Loading times were abysmally long and everytime you got some shitty story you'd seen way too fucking often that could not be skipped. It was fully voiced so it was hard to ignore.
The menu was a pain to navigate and even had long loading times.
The game also came with a cash shop it shoved in your face. An absurdly expensive cash shop you were almost obligated to use if you wanted to unlock any new characters (the cheapest took 50-60 hours to unlock but the currency used was also used to buy new gear and healing items, so really it took a lot longer than this).
Rather than fix the game, they did dumb shit like add literally pointless minigames. One was a fishing minigame which wasn't even a real minigame. You wasted your valuable currency to buy items that let you fish, then you went near a body of water, hit X and waited. That was it, you caught a fish after that which did nothing. I have no idea why they bothered adding this.
Anyone who played the game knew it was going to kill Fable. It was that bad.

Fable was shallow as shit in almost all aspects, but I did like how they merged a lot of life sim elements into the game, I wish other games did that more often. I mean the life sim elements kinda sucked, you couldn't do much to decorate your house, you could marry somebody, but they were all generic NPCs with no personality. If somebody could do a game LIKE fable and add depth to both the gameplay and the life sim stuff it could be a great game.

That would have made the degradation pointless in the first place if you made it trivial to fix like that. Sure, it's a minor money sink, but if you didn't make more money having buildings than fixing them, what would be the point? Repairing should have been a thing at all.
The trick is to only buy businesses because you never need to repair them. The jack up the rent on the most profitable businesses and lower the rent on some shitty stalls to make up for the bad guy points or whatever you get for it.

Fable was my favorite series. I literally played everything they threw at me. Spent an idiotic amount of money on it, because I bought the controllers, special edition guides etc.
