Battleborn is a good game that did a lot wrong but is slowly correcting some mistakes that are logistically possible.
Battleborn has better gamemodes than Overwatch. Battleborn provides more strategy and unique experiences each game.
The time frame of the release was bad. The choice to compare itself to Overwatch when they are not even remotely similar. The price point. All issues that could have been avoid. All of Battleborn's issues could have been avoided.
Certain game modes and quality of life were not in a good state at launch. The UI is bad, but not horrible like the meme picture showcases. As for the action itself on screen, if you play enough you can parse what is going on. That doesn't mean there is no issue with the way they handled particle effects and color palette.
The writing isn't horrible, it is however unfocused and too close to Borderlands 2. The problem here is that character's personalities are lost in the writing. You can get past the writing to a point, after that the actual DELIVERY of the voice acting is poor in some areas. The Voice Director did a bad job interpreting the dialogue, which lead to bad direction and delivery of lines.
The single player is unfortunately shallow due to it being a method of grinding for gear. There is good lore here but the campaign glosses over so much and lacks cohesion and progression of the story and narrative. Again this is due to the nature of what the campaign was decided to be, low concept grind.
Battleborn is a good game. There are a lot of things wrong that had they not been present at launch, you would be looking at a high quality title. At present the quality of the game is hindered by easily remedied changes. Those who are intolerant and unwilling to give the game a shot are both justified and being unfair. The immediate reaction to your first few matches is going to be impacted by the UI, by the action on screen, the lack of tutorials. If you put in the effort the game rewards you.

Battleborn asked for criticism due to how it launched. But there comes a point where reckless shit posting does irreversible damage. The level of vitriol and sheer volume of it comes from people just repeated something others have said, with no personal context to justify their position.
Battleborn general and even the subreddit are constantly ruined by shit posting from people who know nothing about the game. Why do they care so much as to further damage the image of the title? The shit posting was so bad the general for Battleborn died. Not because of lack of posting or discussion, but because you could not discuss the game due to the volume of noise from idiots.
I am more confused that upset. I can remain objective with my criticism of the game while still enjoying it. I know what went wrong.
Here is something to think about. Overwatch's game modes are so uninspired they betray the effort put into designing such interesting characters and their kits. The matches themselves feel lifeless and fleeting due to the casual nature of play. Unless ranked feature new game modes that are not in the quick play option, it won't help much. The game is highly overrated but marketing and delusion have greatly overstated its actual merits. The visual presentation and calculated marketing have done more for the game than the actual gameplay itself.

Unlocking characters is not so bad. By just playing the game you unlock them at a decent pace. It feels necessary in order to ease you into the game.

TF2 matches take more than five minutes. The game is set up so that you can leave a match or join a server and it will not negatively impact your experience due to the pace of each game modes. This is a result of inspired design when it comes to maps fit for specific game modes. The biggest issue with Overwatch is the bland game modes paired with low quality maps. The pacing of the game is slow while giving little time for the players to execute a comeback, as can be done in most other team based games. It can happen in Overwatch but is infrequent as a result of the modes.
Comparing TF2 or Overwatch to Quake is a joke.
You know what the best part is? They have to commit and work on all that dlc no one is going to buy because a few idiots bought the season pass, work on a failure that was dead on arrival and maintain it, their little bubble was burst in the best way possible.

The maps are designed for their game modes. They have modular design that create different strategies when using certain characters or focusing certain aspects of play. Be that objective control, economy control, area denial. The maps are designed much like Summoner's Rift or the DOTA 2 map. Except the variation of the maps within a single game mode offer different experiences that work with the modular modes themselves. Certain maps feature more shards (money) certain maps place Thralls (Super Minions) farther back or closer to the forward Sentries (Inhibitors/Towers). The placement of emplacements and routes to and around areas of the map allow for different strategies that are more complex for the right reasons. This modular design is key to making the play of a single map for a mode feel fresh or rewarding every time. Just like Summoner's Rift. It succeeds in creating maps that are consistent and fun, something every MOBA aims for.
Gearbox's downfall and UK leaving the EU has made 2016 the best year ever. Shame so many legends had to sacrifice themselves to make this year great but its all worth it.

Quake is a game where everyone has the same movement speed and start with a naked loadout. You pick up weapons while you play and the meta game is around controlling the areas where certain weapons or armor/HP/Power ups spawn. Along with memorizing character spawns. The game is about getting the most kills, not getting an objective. There are no classes. It does feature capture the flag but that again is so vastly different because of the decision to put all players on the same level, not altering stats or weapons with classes. It features the mastering of a movement system that if not learned, will put you at a disadvantage.
