Here's what I recommend
Run out backwards through Sen's Fortress (yes you have to do this or you'll regret it)
Get the large ember from next to the first butcher in the depths if you haven't already
Get the claymore from the dragon bridge if you haven't already
Go to Andre and get that claymore to the highest you can (you can get it to something like +8 if you don't waste any shards but you did), you're going to have to farm titanite shards because you've fucked up and upgraded armor instead of your weapons
THEN come back and kill Iron Golem
You will have an absolute nightmare of a time against O&S without having the damage you get from upgrading a weapon to the best you can, and if you don't do it now, you'll have to run backwards through all of Anor Londo AND Sen's Fortress to upgrade your shit

I must have done that alone for 30 hours. Even if you don't knock anyone off a ledge you can kill an entire party with 3 casts because of its crazy AoE damage. Post-Lordvessel is all trash. I usually get to that half of the game, do the DLC, and then just stop and use that character for PVP unless I absolutely need something from one of those areas.
It's why despite my amount of the time in the game I can't say I love it. It's blatantly unfinished. Had they been given an extra year or two it would have been amazing.

All of the Souls games are rushed to get one game out per year, on time, and on budget. They don't have unlimited funds and the goal is only 2-3 million sales. Demon Souls also lacks an entire Arch Stone, and they clearly intended for there to be 5 full levels for each stone, but only manage to do that for a few.

Grass Crest is good, so is Elite Knight, but it's like the Drake Sword in that it's one of those things every single walkthrough mentions at the start, so a lot of people who suck grab them right off the bat and never switch.
I use Grass Crest in pretty much every build though.
