I've tried articulating the reasons to people. They're so blind in their fervor they reject them outright. They tell me "I didn't get it" or "it was too deep".
It's not too deep. The writing is cringeworthy and childish. The characters are archetypal and lack any depth beyond that. The game play is (even if it is intentional) literally boring. The only redeeming thing was the soundtrack, and even that was repetitive by the end.
It's pandering in the worst most superficial fashion and I found the whole thing distasteful.
These are legitimate reasons to dislike a game.

The sad thing is, if Asgore's plant was simply to get 7 souls and then have everyone live on the surface peacefully, it would have been totally reasonable to wait for humans to fall down into the underground. She was pointing out how Asgore really didn't want to kill anyone by showing how he could have gotten it all over all at once with just one Soul. Toriel ran the kingdom and Asgore was clearly a very emotional guy. He fell into grief, and instead of standing by him, she left Asgore to his grief so he could fester and languish.
He didn't make a good decision, but it's not like Toriel is a saint either. On top of that she let that kid go after making her prove she could fight a boss monster and live. It's possible she was hoping the kid would kill her husband.
It's one of those situations where you could play either side as the villain, and in reality you just wouldn't want to get involved. Obviously Toriel was the brains, though, and nothing was going to be fixed if she didn't get her ass in gear.

Undertale didn't actually go that far in terms of breaking the fourth wall, since the game basically tricks you into using your name for an established character. The only real thing it did was a force close, which was really good for dramatic effect. OneShot (or the free version I played, at least) personally made you a key character in the game, and has unique puzzles that can only be solved by you using your PC. If the dev keeps rolling with that style, OneShot could probably make its mark.

I enjoyed it in a strictly "it was a MD game that wasn't GTI" manner, but man was it a letdown beyond that. Sky spoiled me I guess, since its postgame was effectively a second campaign and you got the special episodes to play through as well, not to mention the story gets going before 2/3rds of the way into it and the recruiting system isn't shit. And the"your partner is the one who disappears this time :^)"ebin twist didn't give it all that many brownie points.
I enjoyed how they took the roguelike elements in a completely new direction, though

There's LISA The First, Painful, and Joyful.
First is kind of a Yume Nikki clone that is not needed to play but gives you some insight into a specific character. Probably only needed to be watched instead of played.
The Painful is the important good one, the big actual game with lots of content and fun combat and characters. Story's really good.
The Joyful is DLC for the Painful that finishes up the story, but the gameplay isn't too great and it's a little controversial.

Super is the opposite of grindy. In previous PMD games you could level grind to get ahead and win and dungeons could be very long, but in Super since enemies are extremely overleveled and leveling is slow, the only way to get ahead is to make good use of items. The game was designed around the idea that you'd be doing more item preparation before dungeons and use them frequently when moving through dungeons. Dungeons are also shorter than they've ever been in Super.

That's probably because you're used to PSMD where it takes half the game for anything to actually happen. Explorers has a much denser plot with smoother escalation than "wacky pokemon kid funtime adventures>holy shit the world is getting devoured"
