I never understood how anyone can like Dark Souls 2 more than anything.
ESPECIALLY since it followed Dark Souls 1, which is an absolute master class in game design. Dark Souls 2 is amateurish in literally every single way that Dark Souls 1 is amazing. From the mind-numbingly linear and nonsensical level design to the drab, ugly and flat art direction to the "More = harder" approach to difficulty and enemy placement, right on down to the weightless character animations and "homing" sword swings. It's not good. It just isn't. It was rushed out with a team that had zero idea what they were doing, and the game reeks of it. Literally every single thing that made Dark Souls 1 great is attempted in 2 with a complete lack of understanding.
Yes, the DLC fixes a lot of issues, but that's, what, 5 hours worth playing, 10 if you REALLY stretch it, in an already 50+ hour game, and SotFS's rebalances don't fix the shitty animations or weird hitboxes or intentionally obtuse i-frames.
It's just flat bad.
Especially in the current day and age. Back when it came out, you could be forgiven, because hey, it's more Dark Souls! It sucks, but the DLC is alright, and what else is there? But in the year 2016, when you've got both Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne doing everything DS2 does but orders of magnitude better in every single way, there's no reason to even look at this game twice anymore and I just can't wrap my head around people who prefer it over anything else in the Souls series.
