Once the air dashing problem is fixed, if I somehow code in an limitless Charge Kick then BOOM, we already have a better Mighty no 9 for free.

I basically cheated and copypasted the code for the Charge Shot and placed it into the Dash. Essentially turning the dash into a free Charge Kick. Now all I need to do is match charge shot's speed with Beck.

Actually I thought instead of typing in new codes, I would just remove the lines of code that ends Beck's slide when he's in midair. I think that's the only thing keeping him from doing it, as you can see he still emits the smoke in >>342598329

Isn't that the engine that had Proto Man instead of Mega Man? Doesn't it also run at 30fps? I had modified it to run at 60 fps and put Mega Man in it instead of Proto Man a while back. I wonder if I still have that on my HDD.

I like it, but letting loose a buster shot whenever you dash is kinda overpowered. The way I see it the buster shots sync up pretty well with his dash, so make them vanish as soon as the dash ends for a hitbox that doesn't rape everything in its path after the dash is over

How easy is this program to use? Does it come with all the assets of other Mega Man games so I can just drag and drop shit around? I'm too intimidated to make my own shit from scratch but this seems like a great and fun way to start learning.

Also, I have a full version of Game Maker back when Yoyo Games gave it away for free as part of a promotion a couple of years back but I've never done anything with it besides watch a couple of tutorials and give up from frustration.

OP I want to tell you something important at the start of this project.

Don't feel obligated to finish. I know everyone in the thread is cheering for you but don't let that get to you and think you have some sort of duty to finish this and actually put out a good game. At the end of the day you aren't working for a paycheck and you've got your own motivations. If something comes along that would prevent you from finishing then don't feel bad. Life happens, and while I'm looking forward to see what comes of this, I don't want you feeling like this isn't the same project you started later down the line.

I agree with this. It is bad practice to show off more of your work than to simply work on it. Only show stuff off when you're tired and want a break but try to keep it to a minimum. At the very least, keep most of it a surprise for the full release. Every time you show off and post on /v/, you could be working on the project instead.

All of that said though, I am, personally, more excited than I am critical about this and I'd like to encourage OP as much as possible. On the other hand, I'd be annoyed if there's another thread next week and OP's just showing off some new enemies. Put it this way; don't make another thread until the first level is at least nearly finalized and you have a decent demo to show off.

I really hate the concept of alarms, one of the things I detested about Game Maker. I suggest you drop that shit and just measure milliseconds time passage like everyone else in the game industry and fire off a function if a certain duration of time is met. All alarms do is ruin the little organization of code you already have, not to mention only having a limit of 12 of them per object. Fuck that shit.

I think OP should look up to Kirby games for inspiration of levels.

Despite Kirby being able to fly at will, I think the levels are pretty neatly designed around this.

Cave Story is also pretty cool with its Booster segments in the late game areas.

The problem with MN9 is that it doesn't feel like crouch dashing or that the moves thaat happen when you Hold RT or even infinite air dashing was considered in the level design. Kinda like Ray. They feel added on and they don't compliment each other well.

If you consider yourself capable to actually design levels around all these extra mechanics then go for it. But otherwise I'd say less is more and keep it simple.

The only thing I'm worrying about at the moment is aligning the Charge Shot properly with the dash in the air. Level design will come later after testing the entire test level with it. Hell I might just share the code if Blyka responds back to my email.

It depends on the Gen. Gen 1 and 2 do have tools but not for everything, for example there is Poketext to edit dialogs or whatnot but sadly it is limited unlike AdvanceText which can make any change you want with no problem and that sucks for me because i wanna make a rom hack of G/S/C but i cant into hex editing or assembly and the tools are few and limited.

Any idiot that spends 15 minutes learning gamer maker should be able to do this much in much less than 3 hours. The absolute only thing he's done is make the character dash in the air and shoot a bullet when he dashes, which the code he downloaded already contained functionality to do. See what happens when he actually has to implement enemy or boss AI.
