the NPC also has an option to tell you what you can build from a material you put in a box. I put in rock or stone and I get probably 100 different things I can make, but wait, no I can't make any of that because I need other shit. Water for example. Okay I remember there's water to the left so I go check it out - how the fuck do I gather water? bucket? how do I make one?
it's just endless frustration. that day time ends and night time comes within the first 5ish minutes of you starting out is just throwing salt in a wound. At least give me time to learn how to proper gather materials before you start sending a truckload of enemies at me. After I died for the fifth time I just closed the game. I figured out how to Terraria 5 years ago, when the game was far less forgiving to new players.
It really is not that hard. I could understand if you were clicking away at a tree instead of holding down the button, but still, I think the tools are self explanatory. Take an axe to a tree, pickaxe to the ground, and sword to a monster.

There are plenty of tools that are there only for builders that give you extended range and added precision. You just got an entire update dedicated to electrical stuff. There are hundreds of pieces of furnitures and something like 50 different styles of them. Most of the things you can place are also practical utility and you can actually use them for stuff.
If you consider Terraria "hardcurr" there's something wrong. Yes, some of the later enemies are harder, but nothing that can't be dealt with by preparing and using the plentiful tools given to you.
Daily reminder: to this day in minecraft you make a table by placing a pressure plate over a bench, and you make a chair by putting a stair with a signpost on the side. Don't make me laugh for fuck's sake.
