Why? It worked out in the end. Griffith fucked it up by rushing into fucking Charlotte instead of waiting and building his time because for the first time in his life, somebody left him. His entire life, he had drawn people to him, made them calm, made them feel safe and important. Guts then went "Cya" and when Griffith tried to stop him, got owned.

Every Apostle has a 'human' form. Griffith is Femto's human form. If he went super mad, he'd turn into Femto. Griffith didn't have a body to go back to because it was crippled, so a new one was born.
