Arcanum would be in top 3 easily if its combat was poorly put together. It feels like someone slapped both systems in the last two weeks or something. People obsessing over balance in games nowadays would have a heart attack from playing Arcanum.

It's inbalanced in a shitty way though since guns are by far the weakest option in the game while tech should rival magick.

Not to mention tech enemies are VERY rare and the more tech affanity enemy has the more resistant to magick he is, up to complete immunity.

Anyone knows the process of joining a faction in Gothic 2?

In Gothic 1 it was possible and encouraged to do basically everything sans 1-2 quests for all camps before sealing the deal with one of them and then continuing with the main quest that was exactly the same regardless of your faction, but I have a suspicion this is not how it works this time.

So what locks out me of what? If I start the process of becoming a citizen of Khorinis, will that lock me out of joining up with the Fire Mages? What's the point of no return with a faction?

Also, is the way of leveling weapon skills complete bullshit or what?

It works in the same way as in Gothic 1, do all the entry side quests first.

>So what locks out me of what?
You will get a warning (in the form of yes/no choice) before joining a faction.

>If I start the process of becoming a citizen of Khorinis, will that lock me out of joining up with the Fire Mages?
No, being a citizen is not a faction in itself, it's only one of the possible ways to join the city guard and access upper quarter.

>What's the point of no return with a faction?
You are free to do all the quests and you won't join a faction before you ask for it yourself.

What's immersive about having to master two types of swords at the same time? I'm pretty sure most fighters rarely if ever switched between the two.

>and it would be too cheap otherwise
Yeah, I can accept this. I suppose it was a bit too much that you could max out strength and one-handed in the first game by the time you hit level 13.

So what's the recommended strength/weapon for a mage? I have my one-handed at 30 now, and was flirting with the idea of getting it at least one more level higher since it still feels quite slow and clunky, but maybe it would be too big of an investment. For strength I guess I'll have to rely mostly on potions and such.

>Most hunting skill actually cost 1-3 points, only skinning is that expensive
That's better, I guess. Still, I think I'm skipping crafting skills altogether this time around. I amassed an ungodly amount of ore in Gothic 1 and spent it all on skelly army scrolls fuck yeah, but money doesn't feel like such a rare resource here.

The fact that both are connected with each other.

>I'm pretty sure most fighters rarely if ever switched between the two
You would be wrong then.

And it's not really

>you have to learn both fighting styles

It's more like

>mastering this fighting style will be harder from now, but you will learn the fundamentals of the other one in the process
>>
>>342532178
>So what's the recommended strength/weapon for a mage?
No STR- go DEX, use DEX weapons and learn how to steal/pick locks.

1-handed, 30 is more than enough.

> Still, I think I'm skipping crafting skills altogether this time around
Not an option if you are planning to be a mage, you will need components to craft runes.
>>
>>342531543
From playing most of the games mentioned (except Gothic 1) I can say my tastes are beyond informed and should be treated with respect.
>>
>>342532506

>mastering this fighting style will be harder from now, but you will learn the fundamentals of the other one in the process

>DEX
But rapiers are gay. Alright, fine. If I'll get more out of DEX then so be it. I don't want to fully give up on melee combat, I like it too much. But does the damage bonus derive from DEX too? That doesn't sound right.

>you will need components to craft runes
Wait, by that you mean I'll need to invest in rune crafting and hunting, or just rune crafting?

I'm getting confused here. What's the level cap? In G1 it took something like 140 skill points to get to sixth circle, and an additional 100 to max mana (which really wasn't all that necessary). That's 24 levels worth of points at the minimum. Then comes to it some combat and crafting, which would be at least an additional 5-6 levels if not more. And then lockpicking on top of it?

Level Scaling is virtually its only problem but oh boy what a problem.
Morrowind is a great RPG and a shit game. It might as well be a table top game tbqh. It feels extremely dated even by the standards of its time.
>>
>>342534219
>But rapiers are gay
Master sword is pretty sweet. You can get pic related, too.

> But does the damage bonus derive from DEX too? That doesn't sound right
No, damage is still derived from STR, but DEX weapons have naturally high base damage to make up for that.

This is really up to you. Going STR will obviusly make you a better fighter overall, but imo DEX has more benefits for a mage while providing just enough in terms of melee. Your choice.

>Wait, by that you mean I'll need to invest in rune crafting and hunting, or just rune crafting?
In G2 you generally need to learn how to craft a rune to get it (with some rare exceptions) and most runes require ingredients you get from monsters (like fire lizards tongue for rain of fire etc.)

You can find a lot of those componets without hunting skills, but that would require a lot of meta to pull off and you still won't find all of them. You should invest in hunting skills.

>What's the level cap?
60, but realistically you will get to 40-50 only. I couldn't go beyond 52 even when I killed and beaten up literally everything.

Mages are pretty skill point heavy but you should be fine. Don't raise your mana before you become a Mage (it will be cheaper once you become one), save +stat items for higher levels and you should be fine.

Too late. My butthole will have to endure. Besides, it's cool to see some water mages.

The strange thing though is that Cavalorn is clearly a NoTR character, set he provides you training and a weapon that shits on everything else you can find and equip in the beginning. I wasn't killing wolves and bloodflies at level 1 in G1. Did they do this to lure the player into a false sense of security before the rapefest begins?

>>342536664
So what are the benefits DEX provides for mages? Better weapon selection? More +stat effects? Or just a lower barrier of entry for usefulness?

>rune crafting
Ah, I see. Thanks for the warning, there is a good chance I would have fucked up my build then. Guess I can dedicate a level or two for hunting if that's the case. Shame I already killed most wolves around Khorinis.

What about alchemy? Do you still find stat raising potions, or do they mostly come from crafting now? I already found 1-5 of every single plant mentioned as perma-stat boosting in the book that lists them, but I don't know how much you need of each to craft a single potion, so yeah. I can't judge whether it's worth the investment.

>60, but realistically you will get to 40-50 only
Hot damn, that's a lot. A lot more than what I expected. That explains a lot about the skill requirements.

>it will be cheaper once you become one
Well, that's new. Certainly good to know.
So can I assume the other two attributes will get more expensive after that point? What about combat skills?

Thanks for the help. It's good to get some useful advice on this game since I'm mostly working on my experiences with the first game, but many of my expectations seem to be wrong. And that's possibly even more dangerous than going in completely blind.

>>342537165
That's definitely a thing to consider, although as >>342537535 said summoning might be a solution. But that means I won't be wiping out Khorinis in the first chapter at least. Shame this game doesn't have estocs.

Only Upper Underrail is a metro system and it's tiny as fuck. Whole Lower Underrail is a huge bunker made after the apocalypse. Not counting the whole cave system.

Metro 2033 takes place years after nukes while Underrail is set so long after whatever caused the end of the world that majority of the people don't even know there was any apocalypse to begin with.

There is literally no faction conflict at the time while you play Underrail (except fro maybe Free Drones and Protectorate, but this is an anarchism vs statism kind of deal).

It's set right after a revolution that overthrew a scientific goverment that was conducting a shit ton of experiments all over the place. This is literally nothing like Metro 2033.

People going to the subway to survive the apocalypse is not something Metro 2033 invented, you are just being retarded.

Not him, but this is a non-issue as Metro and Underrail are about as alike as Metro and Fallout. That is to say the only thing in common is that they are both post-apocalyptic.

The metro system in Underrail is not just a regular metro system. It was built specifically for life deep underground.

And all signs point to the apocalypse not being related to nuclear warfare in any way. Nukes and radiation are basically irrelevant in this setting.

>So what are the benefits DEX provides for mages?
Lower skill requirements for weapons with high base damage which is benefical if melee is just a backup you are not going to invest heavily in.

Also if you are playing NoTR most DEX weapons give bonuses to your 1-handed weapon skill, saving even more points.

It also provides additional benefits like better stealing and lockpicking.

>What about alchemy? Do you still find stat raising potions, or do they mostly come from crafting now?
You will quite a few of them but you can craft even more of them. Suffice to say that you should learn how to craft + perma mana potions, it will pay off.

Don't use those perma mana potions until each sinlge point of mana costs 3-4 skill points though, it would be a huge waste to use them early.

I suppose you can eat all other +perma stat plants as you wont have enough king sorrels to make potions out of them too.

>So can I assume the other two attributes will get more expensive after that point? What about combat skills?
All of it will cost more. Once you become a mage it will be all about mana and runes.

You won't become a mage right after joining the monastery though, you will be an Initiate first.

Also, eating a fuck ton of mud mushrooms will give you +perma mana points once you eat enough of them.

Similary, you will gain +1 STR for every 20 or so apples you eat, up to +5.

To be fair thief skills are not really my thing. Lockpicking can come in handy, but if it haven't changed since the first game that doesn't require any skill investment. And even if it does, wouldn't just trial and erroring your way through picking locks until you have the correct combination be enough? In G1 I was never tempted to waste any points on it when it was essentially just a memory minigame.

And my moralfaggotry stops me from stealing.Beating them up and taking their shit is better.

Also, I've just read somewhere that high DEX unlocks acrobatics. If that's true then this is a no-brainer.

So if I go with DEX, how much of it should I get through pure skill point investment?

>you should learn how to craft + perma mana potions
So runes, hunting, and alchemy. There goes my plan to not invest in crafting. But since it seems I'll have to be a purer mage build this time I don't have much of a choice.

>I suppose you can eat all other +perma stat plants as you wont have enough king sorrels to make potions out of them too.
So I guess I should just use up all STR and DEX potions right away too, right? Not much point in conserving them if it's unlikely that I'll raise them some other way later.

>All of it will cost more.
So I should hold a training camp before joining proper. Got it.

That's fucking awesome. Hoarding food beside fried chicken finally has some use.

Yes it should the atmosphere, voice acting and quests in that game make it great even if it lacks choices and has mediocre combat.

Power source. Looking at how the game leaves you at the end, I don't think what it is is important, rather that Tchort thought it was something worth its time.
Actual spoiler:
>Tanner implied to be behind the ambush where the cube was stolen in the first place
>Possibly to create a diversion? Or get the Tchortists and Faceless to wipe each other out?

I really hope all that shit is explained though, hell, after all the "Tchort is Evolution" bullshit the Faceless outright tell you plainly that Tchort was came out of the mutagen vats after they tossed the scientists that made them into it during their revolt

That's not true. Most of people here ackowledge that the Japanese make in general better games.
I think you should go back to gamefaqs, neogaf or wherever you came from.

Might as well ask in this thread:

I'm going for a luck build in my next Fallout 2 playthrough. Any tips for stats? How big of a difference is 10 luck to, let's say, 8 luck?

Jinxed is obvious. I'm thinking Finesse for the other trait to capitalize on my high luck.

Skills will most likely be the tried and true small guns, speech and lock pick.

It's a power source alright, but it's a lot more than that. The thing has fucking signs on it standing for event horizon/singularity. It's not like Six keeps irrelevant information from you, when he does it it's because he believes it would be detrimental to you or at least more important future events for whatever reason.

I don't know. He was behind it getting stolen, and it is implied he was behind the earthquake. He also used up ungodly amounts of energy for his operations. But the Acid Hunters were probably just an unfortunate coincidence.
Diversion sounds about right. The earthquake happened on the very night you got admitted to SGS. So that much was almost certainly intentional. If I had to guess I'd say the plan was to create an excuse for training you, and he would have sent you to pick up the cube while everyone was still distracted by the Faceless. But as for the rest? I'm not sure. It would make sense if his keikaku was to get Six eaten by Tchort. But he was the one who sent you, he should have seen how that event would play out. He is like Six in this sense, despite pretending to be a human he has a tendency to talk about events and outcomes. I didn't even notice it until my second playthrough. So I don't know. It' almost like he wanted you to meet Six.
Maybe you areA BOMB.

Well, the Faceless outright explain the reason behind the lie too. Eidein wanted power, Tchort wanted to eat. It was a mutually beneficial cooperation. The Faceless also outright tell you that whatever Eidein's reasons were, Tchortism was a good thing for Underrail's population, because the community it created wanted to do the right thing. The only problem is that it was based on lies and unattainable goals.
