Different games, man. I prefer Quake 2's multiplayer, but Quake 1 had better singleplayer.

they are both very different
quake 1's levels don't drag because they are short and to the point the enemies are more interesting than 2 as well movement is subjective
quake 2 is technically better in every other aspect though
the original has way more mods and is generally more accessible
Quake 1 - the soundtrack alone...
Quake 1 fucking shits all over 2. Only thing 2 has over it is better tech.
Is Quake worth it if I'll only play single player? I feel like it's one of those games I need to play just cause.

yes, that is Quake 1's main focus and appeal. Online didn't really become the focus until Quake 3 arena

Quake 1's level design is the best in the genre from a purely gameplay perspective and hasn't really been attempted to be matched by any other game since. It was one of the last FPSs that carried the same level design principles as the original Doom and had highly abstract levels that were designed with gameplay first over realism.
