Every controversial game has its idiot defenders. There's still people to this day who think Sonic 06 is a good game and Mega Man X7 isn't that bad.
Probably because, unlike most games that come out with a shitty start, everyone us acting like there won't be patches to fix the problems.
Awful start aside, the game is basically a later day NES MegaMan game with some X/Zero shit sprinkled on. Not the worst game ever made, as all the hyperbole would have you believe, but just a mediocre Megaman game.
Don't get me wrong, this was one of the worst launches in video game history, but so many people built up a cult of failure around the game that we're literally taking everything negative said about it as gospel.

Unleashed set the stage for Color and Generations mix of 3D/2D. Honestly a good game.
Colors: Best modern sonic game, pretty flawless.
Generations: Not quite as good as Colors but still solid 9/10
Lost World was crap
Boom looked terrible, wasn't even interested in trying it.
That's 6 mainline console (8 if you want to include Secret Rings and Black Knight) releases in the last ten years. Three were great, one not so great, and two flatout bad.
