It's entirely shit without a 20-50 man group to play with. With a group and a dedicated map maker (and the requisite 17GB of mods) Arma 3 becomes a stellar experience with gameplay and PvE scenarios that you won't find anywhere else.
Oh, and there's TvT if you're into the sort of thing.
I have nearly 500 hours in A3, used to play with Arma 3 General nearly every night. Good times.

It's not a game for the faint of heart really, it's an autism simulator for sure and that's from someone with 2000+ hours in the arma series since the first one. You'll have experiences that are awesome, and you'll walk across a desert for 20 minutes to immediately get shot in the head and get to do it again. It's a Military simulator, not an FPS. If you keep that in mind and like the thought of that, you'll like it despite what others may say about it

I've been playing the series since the Operation Flashpoint days, so I'm a little biased, but the 3d editor and Zeus features were pretty much my dream features.
It's a fantastic milsim lite sandbox, but the AI is still fucking ridiculous. Your best bet is to fight in urban areas otherwise they'll pick you off from 1km away, with an ironsight rifle while you're laying low in shrubbery. Also the team is constantly adding features for free, but some content is premium DLC (which is way overpriced) so it's not gonna die anytime soon.
Anyone know when ARMA 3 APEX returns to full price?
I dont even know if I want to get it yet though Tanoa looks awesome and may bring me back to ARMA3, if I miss the sale and its back to $35 I may just have to pirate it, but I dont want to because i want to play multiplayer, fuck I'm so undecided.

Some groups allow complete mutes but, obviously, it's a problem when someone is wounded and can't communicate with us. Most, if not all, of the groups forbid usage of the chat channels in game for realism reasons.

The shit ones are the armachair military experts that think they know what they're doing. One group had us line up and handed out awards or some shit for completing a mission.
I enjoy the game but you need to find a good group of guys that know strategy and aren't uptight asshats about it. If they have a guy willing to zues or make maps then you'll get the best experience.

My buddy who plays the shit out of arma3 is ex marines, and he just like the awesome ones you were talking about but I can't get him to play anymore, I think he's too busy with work or something.
I've spent over 100 hours on it just fucking around in the editor. I haven't really touched single player or multiplayer so I can't really comment on that, but it's pretty fun to design missions in the editor.
