I just think if people are going to change the general look of a character, it's as what Terry poster implied. Do it right, and do it intelligently. Don't just slap some hiphop gangsta outfit on some prude and expect it to make sense, for example. Terry's change makes sense because for one, it takes place many years after, but it also makes sense that he'd wear those kinds of clothes and drop the ponytail. His redesign is done by an artist who became intimate enough with the characters owned by SNK that he understood how they'd grow.
On the other hand, Capcom just does some cheesy ass shit to rival the alternate designs of something like KOFMI or even deviantart shit like KOF Redux. More like, KOF Redon't. Doesn't matter what you think of her. They couldn't portray her properly at all. That's why UDON is terrible. Their art is pretty mediocre, too.

That's any alternate, they are meant to get out there plus the point wasn't about them it was a about the default look being redesigned. Capcom are reserved when they do that and then have fun with alternates because it doesn't mater if a few don't work out
