Honestly every change they've made to this series is exactly what people deserve for being such shit at the first game. Constantly complaining about time limits and rescuing survivors when those two were at the core of Dead Rising's gameplay.

What made the first game special was the balance between time management, rescuing survivors (which made a bulk of the the gameplay), using any weapon around to clear zombies in your way, defeating the time sink psychopaths and once you've learned the level layout and maxed leveled, do all these things while completing the main story.

All that wrapped in a story that wasn't by itself full retard, but could be due to player choices like wearing stupid outfits that showed up during cutscenes. Basically it was a customizable game without it actually having a menu option for difficulty. The game was made more difficult the more you chose to tackle on any given playthrough.

But all that was mostly forgotten by 2, and even more so by 3 which is one of the most streamlined, brain dead "open world" games I've played in a while.
I look forward to Dead Rising 5 being a full on bootleg Dynasty Warriors game.

I can't disagree that the basics were improved, like with the shooting and the little icon telling you when survivors will follow you through doors, but I think they opened pandora's box when they introduced the combo weapons.

The concept itself isn't bad at all, but the issue with how 2 introduced it was that it made every basic weapon obsolete. The nailed bat was far more effective than any non combo weapon available, and you could find parts for it anywhere. This seems to have also moved the series towards being far more combat oriented than the balance found in the first game.

I guess I was in the minority that found cleaving through zombies while escorting survivors with a tense time restriction to be way more enjoyable than just wiping hundreds of them off the screen alone. I know Dead Rising 2 had elements of the former, but I guess I just found the game to be a hell of a lot easier.

Also on a more personal note, I just thought the story was godawful in 2 and the tone was fucked, and it only got worse as the series went on.

With each sequel, Blue Castle went out of its way to remove the identity the original game for the sake of appealing to casuals. Each game got dumber, not only in mechanics but with setting, characters, story and humor.

Time limits are a large part of the reason the original game was so great despite some flaws.

- Leveling system was designed around restarts, which in turn made you smarter and stronger at managing time and tackling the missions or objectives you wanted to tackle

- Made the game rewarding when you actually planned your actions out

- Made discovery a lot more fun when you run somewhere to finish something and OH SHIT SNIPERS/MALLMEN/WEEEEELLLLLL

- Made finding/unlocking shortcuts, etc, that much better.

The only problems it had were that survivor AI was awful and so were guns.

Combo cards, while fun collectables, added nothing else to game IMO.
On top of that 2's combat was slow as balls anyways and the engine couldn't even handle 8 zombies on screen, compared to DR1 which could handle hundreds with no slowdown.

If you look at his DR1 model, then watch footage from 4 it's not that drastic.

People are too stupid to browse through menus to choose the difficulty that best suits them. Not to mention that casuals get offended if they are forced to choose the easy mode, even if it is the one that accommodates the best for them.

So the best solution is to dumb down everything. That way you won't hurt the feelings of casuals, and the devs won't have to work so hard.

Chuck shouldn't have given 3/10ths of a fuck after Rebecca confirmed the LOCKED A/V room from the TIR event was trashed. Thus footage of Chuck was staged, and then TK admitted it to his face by the end of case file 2.

He is interested in clearing his name, but he's not working to gather any evidence of it. The only thing he goes after is TK. He shouldn't therefore be confronted missing a case file with "The Truth has Vanished". He should get "TK has slipped away" if getting TK to confess is how Chuck sees his only chance.

Honestly when I played DR1, I felt so rushed by the time limit that I ended up stopping maybe halfway through, and the AI of the survivers was the absolute worst, you'd have to hold their hands just to get through everything. Plus some of the bosses are just unfair, like the prisoner escapees that drive the humvee with the machine gun.

They had a sandbox mode in Off the Record. It's fine for a few minutes where you try out stuff you wouldn't normally do, but will all the time in the world it just drags
