It's pretty damn great despite the bugs and low framerate AND lack of content. The basic mechanics are slowly coming together, it's obviously not ready now but you'd have to be a shitposter to think it won't end up succeeding.
>>
It looks boring. Grind away for fake dollars or spend real dollars for fancy looking ships.

I prefer Space Engineers, at least in that game there is shit to do besides grind endlessly.
>>
The biggest change in the alpha that needs to happen is:
>Ships become Disabled when taking enough damage to kill them. They are uncontrollable and larger ships will lose their speed (I don't know how to make that make science sense, but for balance they need to be boardable)
>Taking excessive damage once disabled will blow the ship up like usual. Smaller fighters and personal ships will also explode if they crash while out of control, but can be ejected out of even if its disabled.

Right now shit just instantly explodes, which looks silly. I'd much rather see the ship spin out of control and possibly crash into another ship or space object.

>>

The trans-system "warping" is between known entrance/exit points that naturally occur and have to be mapped (by players). Can't do it everywhere.

Inter-system travel is a 0.2c speed mode (or sublight, anyway) which isn't really warping.
>>
>>342267498
>whats stopping anyone put bomb to some jet and instantly warp it to some room with people you dont like?

They did that in Star Trek.

Most of the time games with warp/FTL/Jumps/whatever require a fairly large and power consuming secondary engine. Something you couldn't strap to a bomb without significant cost.

Most ships also have jump computers or similar. It's generally the excuse for not being able to jump right away, because you need jump calculations to not end up half way in a planet or star.

It's like you don't even watch sci-fi

>What can I do?

The in-game Arena Commander dogfighting simulator is still around, but the real meat and potatoes these days is the Baby PU (Persistent Universe). It's a span of space surrounding the planet Crusader in the Stanton system with a bunch of space stations, a couple of asteroid fields, and Comm Relays that can be turned on or off by players and monitor a certain amount of space around themselves for stuff like player killing.

There's a couple of missions that you can earn a currency called aUEC which is a temporary placeholder for the final game's currency. You can spend it on guns, armor, in-game clothes, and shit like that. Repairing/refueling your ship costs aUEC, refilling your ammo costs aUEC, etc. It's a test for later implementation of the economy during the Beta.

There is also a detached landing zone you can visit but not much to do other than shop for the things I just mentioned. You can't actually land your ship on it right now as the landing system isn't done so you have to get there via a menu or in-game elevator in your hangar.

Oh and there's some rudimentary FPS gameplay at a Security Post in the Baby PU, but it's kind of just a free-for-all at this point. You can use your guns anywhere other than Port Olisar though so don't feel like you're confined to just that Security Post for FPS shit. It just doesn't happen anywhere else very often.

They can steal and crash them, yeah. Lack of ship security is kind of annoying, it's only really a problem if you've got a new ship that everyone wants.
It costs nothing to recall your ship, but if it's destroyed it costs to recall it (or you wait five minutes). Pretty sure you get two ships, your bought one and a loaner cheap fighter

>and can people seriously nigger away(steal) my ships?

As of now, yes. They've been working on a system by which doors have locks that respond to authorizations, identities, and so on but the last I heard it was buggy as shit and had a nasty habit of locking every single door in the game and refusing to open them. Hence, it has not been implemented yet.

>other than that it sounds good, but maybe not enough content?

Yeah I can understand that sentiment. It is a little light on things to do. Personally I just download the new releases and dick around with the new content when they come out then play other games until the next new release comes out.

I wouldn't feel any particular rush to pick the game up if I were you. With $116 million in funding and that number growing all the time there's no reason to try to push people to pick it up. Hell, they made more than $400,000 in a single day when the latest Dragonfly concept sale went up and it only costs $35. Granted, it also went up with a Caterpillar/2 Dragonfly three pack that costs some $300 too and the LTI Caterpillar is highly coveted so I can't give all the credit to the Dragonfly.

I'd say just check the game out at your leisure, watch for people posting about it, check out some gameplay videos on youtube, and don't feel any rush to make a decision.

>>342269003
>>and can people seriously nigger away(steal) my ships?
Right now, yeah but you can just spawn a new one. Later no, you can lock the door.

>other than that it sounds good, but maybe not enough content? of course if I buy it and get bored I can just pick it up a year from now or whatever
Don't buy it to play right now. Buy it to save money because it will be a lot pricier on release. Just hold if you're not sure.

>another question, if I buy one of the basic ships, which one is "better"? or what's the difference?I mean the Mustang Alpha - Aurora ships
They cost the same price so you can just swap one for the other as many times as you want.

use my referal code for free credits : STAR-ZQDH-MWJ7 but don't feel compelled to buy if you can wait.
>>

Only think im trying to figure out is all these "hundreds of dollary-doos worth of ships", can they be purchased with in game credits when the full-game releases? or is there going to be exclusivity?
>>
>>342270094
Can't be purchased once the game launched with real money. Basically no reason to buy them other than further support the game. Nothing is exclusive to real-money pledges.

thank you for the answers (and the code!)

I'll try it, and see for myself. If it doesn't blow me away I have tons of games to play now, and some other games to look forward to (Maybe No mans sky? didn't preorder, not convinced; and the new Deus Ex)

see you in space bros

Buying the expensive ships is just to fund the campaign. All of the ships in the game, from the smallest and cheapest to the largest capital ships will be available in-game without spending more than the purchase price. It's just that acquiring those things in the Alpha is hard and/or impossible due to there being an extremely barebones progression and economy system. If you want to play with other ships ask around. Sometimes the people who have dumped a lot of money into the game will hand their ships over to you. A lot of times people who own bigger ships will want crew members too.

The really big ships will never be for sale. The biggest one they've ever sold was a Javelin Destroyer for some $2,500 and they only sold some 200 of those. Cruisers, Battleships, Carriers, and the Dreadnought will never be sold for real money.

What is just as bad is the caustic die hard doubters that spew memes based on wisps of forum speculation. Its one thing to have speculation of SC because of late/buggy release builds or the quality of feedback from CIG. But most of the doubt are from people who don't even own the game, and are trying to make up their own Soap Oprah so they can say "I was there for TOR 2.0"
In all honesty its pretty damn impressive to see how far CIG has become from a cinematic trailer to a international company with hundreds of employees and a persistence universe.

I hope SC does not fall into the trap ED did.
It's really really boring to just fly to an area where shit is fighting, shoot some things, then eventually head home while the others keep fighting.
The battles feel pointless and never ending.

The only way a battle will be satisfying is if it starts when you arrive, and ends when every enemy or every ally is dead or has retreated.

The whole having battles that go on for days and are just infinite ships killing infinite ships until a timer runs out is really really boring.

It's not teleportation. There are two methods of very fast travel:

1) Quantum Travel. This one is for traveling within a solar system. The rough estimate is 20% the speed of light. If it picks up any kind of obstruction within a certain amount of space around your ship it immediately drops you out of QT. This is how interdiction will work.

2) Jump Travel: This one is for traveling between star systems and essentially functions as Faster Than Light travel. You use pre-existing disturbances in space where wormholes often spontaneously form called Jump Points. A Jump Drive basically forces open a wormhole and you drive into it. Navigating a jump point, especially an uncharted one, is treacherous. Not all ships can use all jump points. Bigger ships need more stable jump points that are well charted.

Mostly just dogfighting and simple retrieval type stuff for now until they implement the other more complicated stuff. Boarding combat, asteroid mining, planetside mining, cargo hauling, trade, hands-on repairs, research, exploration, and being a glorified airbus are in the works.

CIG is mostly all hands on deck for getting the singleplayer campaign finished so only a fraction of the team are working on the public alpha build. There's some design documentation you might want to read.

People hate it because it made a shitload of money and stands on its own without any kind of outside support. No publisher, no deadlines, no content cuts. It's a self-made game with an industry veteran at its head who has been working movie production for a decade and wanted to come back to what he loves. They can't handle the fact that the developers had to build a studio from the ground up, recode an engine from the ground up, and make all of its content from scratch. They're too used to annual sequel vomit to understand that a videogame isn't made in less than two years.

It's the Donald Trump of videogames.

The thing that disappoints me the most about this game is that it is going to fail by being mediocre, which means that we will not get any great reactions from the idiots who backed this. Game releases, it's boring as fuck, most people drop it a month in, nobody talks about it. It would be much more amusing if the whole project got canned, but they'll release some sort of working mess eventually, so meh.

I watched this project go from 0 to 116 million dollars raised. I watched it go from a trailer to playable content with multiplayer. I watch constant community updates that show progress of the project. The project is not a joke.

If it gets the best parts of EVE, X3AP, ED and Pulsar it will be the shit, especially on a vive or VR. but fuck spending money on a game that isn't even completed yet.

See: Every single AAA game you've played in the last 20 years.

>rather no deadlines met

You obviously have no fucking clue what you're talking about, since "deadlines met" in videogame development directly correlates to "content cut." Just look at MGSV.

>or just no content

You really just love that vaporware meme don't you, no matter how much evidence mounts against your retarded assertions? No matter how many in-game screenshots, webms, and videos get posted you just keep repeating the same shit.
>>
>>342287658
i don't get it, are you trying to use donald trump as the subject of a positive analogy? are you saying being the donal trump of video games is a good thing? you do follow the news right? you don't really like trump do you?

Like DNF? :3 Keep on preaching brother. Once you suspend your disbelief, it will all be fine. Worked for AUM and every other cult.

A Wild Hillary Shill appears, completely missing the point of how something people love to hate can succeed despite all odds.

and btw no one dislikes trump because hes a self made success. bill gates has 30x trumps worth and no one hates him. people hate trump because he says absolutely stupid shit every chance he gets and a bunch of right wing republitards are actually buying it. which is the only reason hes won the general for the party of retards.

A completely inane politician who uses loaded rhetoric to get into office and push through the same policies as everyone else is by no means as bad as dividing the world into "us vs. unbelievers/memesters". I for one am glad that our local SCdrones are just wasting their money on a shit product as opposed to joining an organisation that might actually cause greater social harm to both them and those around them.
>>
>>342289365
It's okay, anon, it's all right as long as you can make yourself believe that you didn't waste all your money. For all it is worth, you are still not as pathetic as the individuals donating to the Breeding Season patreon.

What exactly is it counting? It certainly isn't active development until launch.
>>
>>342290636

That's Derek Smart's game Anon. He's Star Citizen's most vocal critic. The irony being that his shitty game has been in development for twice as long and doesn't even work.
>>
>>342290761
I don't understand what the point of putting other games there is. D3 was not being developed in the same way for 11 years that GW2 was.

I've heard about Derek Smart, but only because SC "investors" can't shut the fuck up about him whenever someone says their favourite project looks kind of shit.
>>
>>342290636
Inception to completion is what it's counting. The point this image is attempting to get across is that

>Games take time to develop
>Some games go through pauses and hold ups
>This is not new
>>
>>342291024
>I don't understand what the point of putting other games there is.

As a comparison of how long a game goes from pre-production to release I assume. Most games aren't even announced into they're well into development. Compare this to Star Citizen, which is crowdfunded and therefore was announced before production on the game even started.

>I've heard about Derek Smart, but only because SC "investors" can't shut the fuck up about him whenever someone says their favourite project looks kind of shit.

You weren't paying a lot of attention then, since Derek Smart spent about a year intentionally trying to sabotage the game up to and including conspiring with a yellow journalist from the Escapist to write a smear peace based on false evidence like claiming unmarked RFID cards and paystubs with pseudonyms on them are evidence that the people she interviewed were former CIG employees.
