Basically the only reason for the fucking split in the first place was because Aonuma fucked up the series by making Wind Waker and completely contradicting the previous game for no discernible reason

Its from a Scooby Doo prequel cartoon. It involves murder of the gang's family members and a horror universe reset that gives them the reason to go on the monster hunting of the original series. Tons of action and death and drama. Kids hated it.

The focus on stacking hardly adds anything and the removal of an extra player just so they could focus on a shitty gimmick didn't mean anything. Plus the lack of thought or care put into the plot compared to even the barebones Four Swords games just adds to how little it matters as a game as a whole. It was just something to shit out because Breath of the Wild was taking too long to finish, which shouldn't be the mentality behind making a game
Plus the original had the benefit of essentially being an extra game tacked onto an ALttP port that got a better sequel. Also the 3DS port was pretty much free
