For some reason Japan and France has always had a weird relationship. I'm guessing it wasn't that there was a bunch of French people sending letters but that the few they got had more impact than anyone else.

I love some of the comments by Horii and others about them replaying DQ7 PSX.
With DQ2 they seem to came to the conclusion there was little they could really do to fix the balancing of the game. Best they could do is move around some of the Crests and up the other party members but nothing that different from the NES version.
I've only played III, IV, and V and hear this one is very different from the others, would you guys say its similar enough to those or is something I should look more into? I know it's long as fuck and worry about "playing it wrong" with the job system being a concept I'm not used to.
So Dragon Quest fans, there was a leak by verendus a year or so ago that has been correct for everything regarding Squeenix.
In his leak he said that there will be a Dragon Quest game remade in complete HD.
He said it was a very old early Dragon Quest.

It uses DQ6 job system but a bit more fleshed out. As for story it's a bit more linear than most DQ games where you are forced to go to certain areas in a certain order. Unlike other DQ games where the moment you get a ship or something you can visit most places.
That being said its my favorite of the DQ game. Most of the places you go to has amazing impact and outside a few times (starting dungeon and right before getting the job classes) the game does a good job at keeping up the pacing. It's the longest of all the DQ games by far but I hardly felt the game wasted my time outside of those small bits I gave. And from what I've read the 3DS reworked them so that it's even tighter.

I don't see Dragon Quest X being confirmed for western release yet.
Also, Dragon Quest II is really the only older DQ game that could benefit from a second remake. And it would basically need to change and add a ton to the story and gameplay to justify it. DQVI is the only game I think didn't get a satisfactory remake since it removed a couple things and didn't fix the flaws of the original game.
But I'd have to vote for DQIV, just for the chance that we get a decent localization. And to see Alena in 3D.

I never got why Atlus is so crazy about dubbing. Like their American counterpart feels like it's an insult to even ask for it. Glad Horii understood there was a lot of people that like having the option to have both voice cast and gave us that in Heroes.

DQ is old school JRPG in every way. While every other JRPG series trying to reinvent itself (FF isn't the only one that does it) DQ stays true to what it is. That is just you will always play the Hero. The big baddy is just the big baddy with no real "could he be actually helping?" (they sometimes love pulling "the bad guy was working for this guy). It basically invented the JRPG troops. They keep you in one setting so you get a better feeling of what is happening in that area so when something does happen there it's more impactful unlike others JRPG which tends to destroy it as soon as you get there or before so you never really get a strong feeling of the town.
Overall if you enjoy 16/64 bit JRPG than you will most likely enjoy every DQ game. It really tries to outdo itself and in almost every game it somehow succeeds (DQ6 might be the only misstep in the series and DQ6 is more ok instead of amazing like 3-5)

But the jist of it is, Dragon Quest focuses on exploration over point to point story events. Though it still has plenty of story events, it allows the player to find them and interact with them at their own pace. In other words, its about the journey, not the destination.

Don't know. Sadly DQ has always had bad timing when it comes out.
DQ1 (a 1986 game) came out in 1989 so no one really gave a fuck about it. Which didn't help DQ2-4.
5 and 6 was skipped.
DQ7 came out a few months near FF10 on PS2. So everyone was just too busy laughing at the near 16-bit look of the game.
DQ8 was the first to really be given a good shot even came with a Demo of FF12. And it seem to have been done well.
DS wasn't really marketed well (came out near FF13 which seem to be where all the marketing budget went to) until Nintendo took over with DQ9 which did amazing.
And now we have DQ7 which is coming out around the time of many other JRPG.
Hopefully DQ11 comes out near a dry time for JRPG. So it has a actual chance for once. I would love to get both PS4/NX and 3DS because while the same game they both seem to offer different things.

It won't be censored because it was made up in the first place. I played the 3DS version last year, but I don't recall her saying anything like that. I also saw a scene from the English PSX version where Captain Sharkeye or whatever his name was, made a joke about turning a guy into a slave. Wasn't in the 3DS version, and I looked up the scene from the Japanese PSX version. Wasn't in there either. DQ VII's old localization seems to be a case of localizers getting to do whatever they want, so they put a bunch of stupid shit in it.
