I'm embarrassed to say that I got in an argument with a guy at my uni over whether or not pokemon X and Y are reboots of R/B/G.
Apparently there's some game theory episode that focuses on some line where a character mentions a world where fairy-type pokemon don't exist (clearly referencing transferring pokemon from the older games in the series) and people interpreted that as "this is the first entry in the new series".
What bothered me was that he accepted the theory as fact and kept going on about how it was clearly the canon story. Like he never once stopped to question the theory, or to just accept it as a theory.I had to physically get up and leave because the argument was never going to end
