ITT: The Seinfeld Effect
That's not FF4.

Can someone from today playing for the first time really not enjoy this game?
That's sad.
Elaborate.
>>342143368
it's not awful, but it is harder to play after playing TTYD first
>>342143439
I played 64 first, and it is the better game
>>342143518
I'm sorry anon, but you're deluding yourself thinking that. TTYD literally improves everything that was wrong with the first game. Better, more memorable worlds and bosses, better music, STYLISH MOVES, more personality in partners, the crowd being a part of the battles, etc. It's just better.
>>342144007
I disagree with all those things. ttyd combat was deeper, but I don't really play paper mario for deep combat
The #1 thing I loved about TTYD was superguarding and it was tough to play 64 after being used to it
>>342142037
What does the seinfeld effect have to do with Paper Mario?
>>342144007
I'm willing to admit I havent played both these games since both their launches, but I think PM64 had more memorable worlds.
I'd have to replay both though to be sure. Either way, both are great.
Oh I get it it's because Paper Mario is a game about nothing. I'm glad Sticker Star and Color Splash gave this spin-off a run for its money.
>MFW seeing all the people bitching about Color Splash

I think he's talking about the "Seinfeld isn't funny" meme that refers to the fact that everything Seinfeld did has been done to death by this point, making Seinfeld unenjoyable. It's a thing people with completely shit taste say.
>>342146507
that's what I thought too, so I posted >>342145192
but it's actually not :
http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/seinfeld-effect
>>342146584
then what the fuck is he even talking about
>>342146584
I don't think Paper Mario was ever on a TV show
How does the Seinfeld Effect have to do with this at all, OP?
>>342143368
I played TTYD first and64 is clearly betterOutside of the plot which is better in TTYD
>>342147490
>>342146848
>>342146584
>>342145434I fucked up, I meant >>342146507
>>342144007
ttyd was better overall, but had terrible backtracking.
disagree on music, boss themes are tied, but 64 had better overworld themes imo.
>>342147584
true, I remember me and my siblings joking about how bowser should have just wished for mario to be dead or powerless or something and the game would be over
>>342146584
>Family Guy effect
So basically it's things being introduced in games that are later overshadowed by other games?
Like people who say Halo is the first-ever FPS or something?
>>342144007
Ttyd is ruined because it has horrendous backtracking. That alone made every other charming and lovely thig about the game tank and made it a chore to play. Sure 64 was light on story, dialogue, and the combat was a little shallowerer, but you only had to back track for a stupid water gem and some yoshis, not the entire chapters map like in ttyd, only then to backtrack to the tty door right afterwards every single time.
>>342144007
PM had way better pacing despite being simpler.
Both TTYD and 64 are great and each have some strengths that make it better than the other in certain areas.
>>342148916
Shy Guy Toy Box has you backtack quite a bit, but overall TTYD has more backtracking. Another thing most people don't really pay attention to is 64 has more areas that aren't just going left or right.
>>342146507
But Seinfeld is still hilarious
>>342149120
this. PM64 is one of the best examples in gaming of great pacing. locations loop around perfectly, there's enough side-features to keep things from getting worn out without being burdened by lots of random shit, and each chapter's length is just right
