How to make tank genre more popular? It's only WoT, WT or AW.

You can't do much with tanks if you want to keep them realistic.
Also WoT's terribly grindy system made me quit after rank 8.

Is WoT any good these days? I tried it years ago and wasn't impressed. I was having fun in WT but the grind has started to get to me.

RO2 sorta did this with various crew members. Just wish there were more tonks in game and the tonk maps weren't broken in campaign servers

though my idea was a pvp game focused around communication with maybe 3 tanks on each side

Although what I really want is a game a lot like Guns of Icarus online, but with the aesthetic and extra dimensions of Last Exile, (i.e. musketmen decks, fighter and bomber pilots, etc.) I'd be a happy fucking weeb if that ever came close.
