Why aren't more games written in WebGL or OpenGL?
>>
Because, despite what open source retards will tell you, OpenGL is inferior to DirectX.
>>
>>342094739
How so?
Also, is there any difference between WebGL and OpenGL, and is there a non-plugin alternative to WebGL?
>>
>>342094656
Did the new one release on 19th of june?
>>
>>342095107
Yes.
>>
DIGITAL STYLE
>>
>>342095107
yes
go watch it before you get spoiled.
>>
Well this thread went off topic fast.

>>342095969
How do you spoil it?

"Alright, so let me try and figure out how to put this into words: Drowning in oil, some sort of weird conspiracy about how everything is controlled, and I think the universe gets destroyed"
>>
>Freeze frames show Red guy as a teacher along side the old and new ones

WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
>>
>>342094656
no easy way to make money. Dont those .io games use something like this?
>>
>>342096136

>puppets were kiddnaped and kept in that weird computer world by yellows dad
>red managed to escape but came back to free his friends from the never ending nightmares, that's why there were new characters with unseen songs
>when he unplugs, it resets the machine with new characters to start over a new nightmare
>mfw yellow's dad may be in reallity a grown up yellow and the puppet's son is just a younger projection of himself

also, if you pay attention to the letters in the puppet's beds they say "ryd" What does it mean?
>>
>>342096787
I don't think they use a plugin of any sort, so it'd probably be either WebGL or HTML5; but they must be written incompetently then, because the snakes in slither.io are clearly using textures where simple math would be better in every way, and agar.io is very taxing on the browser.
>>
>>342097105
Red Guy
Yellow Guy
Duck
>>
>>342097105
They all became their favorite colors in the end.
>>
>>342097241
The fact the day changed implies they were different puppets since the originals were missing since june 19
>>
>>342097105
I think the authors don't really have a real meaning in mind but just thrown a shitton of symbolism David Firth in his videos since people in general really love to find meanings everywhere.

I honestly just find it frustrating that frames like this are probably pointless.
>>
>>342097392
It sure has a lot of random shit, but the episodes have a clear progression
>>
Wouldn't it be funny if games came alive, here...i am a game...and you play me...doodoodoo...a game...did like a song?
>>
>>342097778
No.
That sounds really boring.
>>
>>342097735
I'm not denying that, but I can easily see the deeper meaning not being actually set but just be a thing open to interpretation.
>>
>>342094656
Its all down to what engines support it

And thats down to which corporations throw money at them

And microsoft is huge and likes throwing money around
>>
>>342094656
Didnt unity just start supporting webgl like a few months ago?
>>
During the bit where all the fake mascots for songs we never saw flash in, there should've been one for 'symbolism' where he briefly calls it hogwash for over-speculative idiots before quickly zapping back out for a different song.

Finding weird frames is kinda fun actually, such as this one.

Browsers support WebGL, which is a massive, massive plus.

>>
OGL is slower than DX. Hopefully Vulkan will correct that.
>>
>>342099084
How about WebGL?
>>
>>342099221
No one plays browser games anymore.
>>
>>342099252
That's because no one makes browser games anymore.
Last decade had more fun browser games than one healthy person could play, and that's just for one site.
Now you'll get one fun thing every now and then if you restrict yourself to one site.
Of course, you can just browse the old games, they all still work unless they're Java.

If people didn't like browser games, .io games would have flopped; they're low quality, and have no incentive for people to stay hooked.
.io games went viral however; so people love browser games.
>>
>>342099462
The only reason io games got popular at some point is because they were viraled by e-celebs. People didn't find the game on their own, and don't stick around on web games sites. People CAN enjoy browser games, but they already have smartphones and tablets, so why bother?
>>
>>342099701
One massive thing I've noticed with games lately is that time to get into the game is one of the biggest factors as to likelihood of playing, and enjoyment of it.

If someone hears about a game that they can be in the action of in less than a minute, they're very likely to play.

Other games that require installs, configuration, and learning can sit unplayed after purchase for literally months or even years though.

OpenGL and DirectX are very similar in quality.

WebGL is basically OpenGL for Javascript, for webpages.

You would need a plugin for an alternative, unless you create a 3D engine in HTML5 canvas, which would be really slow.
>>
OpenGL 2 was a complete clusterfuck and released after DX9. So you either used OpenGL 1 which was outdated as fuck until 2 released which was garbage, or you used DX9 which remained relevant for like 10 years.
>>
>>342104972
I'm using WebGL, so honestly I have no idea what version of anything I'm using.
>>
>>342094656
Games that are ported to OSX and Linux use OpenGL.
>>
>>342105027
Yeah I don't know anything about WebGL or GL ES, I just know the Khronos group fucked up majorly in the early 2000s and OpenGL would probably have been the dominant API if they hadn't.

jesus christ why is everyone so concerned with "spoilers" these days? there is not some deep plot with unexpected twists and turns that can be spoiled, these videos are just supposed to be funny/disturbing, but not in some 2deep4u way.

people like you are why we got DMIS 5 and 6 as shitty attempts to give the story some connecting background story instead of something good like the first 4.
>>
>>342105027
WebGL 1.0 (the current version) is based on OpenGL ES 2.0 (ES is for mobile devices).

OpenGL ES 2.0 is based on a subset OpenGL 2.0 with all the cruft removed.

>>342105131
Yeah. Kronos fell behind a bit in the early 00's.
>>
>>342104657
means OpenGL = Bunch of different libraries, need optimization on each code which time consuming as some may not be optimized, thus inferior performance ?
DirectX = Using the same libraries, easier to develop and optimize ?
>>
Doing graphics course on uni with opengl.

The thing is that it's quite low level, so you need to engineer a lot before even thinking about adding artsy and gameplay stuff. What game designer is interested in matrix transforms, vector operations, fragment/vertex shading, texture mapping, etc.? Its all engineery stuff, most ppl are not interested in it.

Its just too low level and complex in general. Most people just use unity, unreal or some engine that does a lot of shit for you.
>>
So in other words with what I'm hearing, WebGL is hands-down better for web in that it's the only option, while the only advantage that OpenGL has over DirectX is that it translates to web applications more easily due to WebGL similarity?
>>
>>342106152
Fragment and vertex shading is extremely fun, gotta agree the rest sucks though.
>>
>>342098321
>Heh, I'm so much smarter than everyone else, obviously these people trying to find meanings in a show known for being vague and metaphoric are fools!
>>
>>342106183
OpenGL is all around more portable, so if you want to make Linux/OSX/iOS/Android portable stuff it's probably the way to go unless you want to do lots of extra work.
>>
>>342105951
DirectX doesn't have a webpage version or a mobile version, so this shouldn't matter so much.

Writing software that works between webpages, phones, and desktops would be painful though.
>>
>>342098390
>using a virtually unknown game as an example
>using a game disliked by all its players as an example
>knows the workings of the game
>link to store page rather than just saying the name of the game

Is this some guy trying to shill his own game?
>>
>>342094656
DirectX does most of the tough work for you.
OpenGL does not.
Also, DirectX relates to more than graphics.

Good point, DirectX covers some other libraries. People usually just mean Direct3D though.

I wouldn't say that DirectX does more work for you. The APIs are quite similar.
>>
>>342094656
is it because the development of webgl technology just came out like within the past 4 years or so? And people are already used to making games on other platforms? I dunno. But it's not a bad question.
