>we will never have a good Legend of Heroes again
Makes me sad.
Let's talk about Trails of Cold Steel, Falcom and their upcoming releases.Legend of Heroes thread
I meant thread. We will never have a 300+ reply Legend of Heroes thread.
Damn, nips kiseki fans depress me. Of course kiseki is nothing compared to big IPs like FF or DQ, but damn the game sold more than 100ks for fucks sake, at least have some fucking confidence, fuck.
>>342042168
>we will never have a good Legend of Heroes again
I still believe that Sen III will be good.Info when?
Remember when Falcom was good?
>>342044120
No. They always made budget games.
>>342042895
The franchise is fucking fantastic.
What are the nip fans saying about it?
>>342044739
Well several days ago i watched someone playing Zero on nicolive when the conversation start to spiral down after someone ask "did people actually play kiseki games?". It was depressing as fuck.
Laura best girl, but Sara is great too.
Really, they're all great.
>>342042367
Just wait until the next game releases. Thread will mostly be dead until then.
>>342042168
It would seem they are not releasing trails in the sky 3 on vita/psp
Kinda sucks because I would of liked to port my data over. I guess I will just borrow clear data from someone who played the PC versions of the first 2 games.
I still haven't played Cold steel yet, Seems like its pretty good though.
>>342042168
How often do Falcom games go on sale? Cold Steel is on sale on the PSN right now, but I don't want to buy the game yet, not for months, I want to play through Trails in the Sky first. Not even sure if I'll like them, so I don't want to buy Cold Steel yet. Though a physical copy will probably be cheaper by the time I get around to it anyway, especially if I wait for the English release of Trails in the Sky the 3rd and play Ao and Zero. I hear that they're all somewhat related, but then again, I've also heard that you can generally play the series in whatever order you want too.
>>342043867
After Ys 8 is released on ps4.
>>342046004
They're on sale right now at GOG. But to answer your question normally not very often.
>>342046567
Yeah I was thinking about getting both of the Sora games right now because of that. Being on GoG and Steam, I'm not worried about when they'll be on sale again, it's only Cold Steel I was thinking of. But eh, think I'll forget about Cold Steel for now, by the time I get to it I'll probably be able to get it on Amazon for 20 dollars anyway.
Which girl is used the most and why is it Rixia?
>>342046962
>>342042514

You still playing your little girl games, son?
>>342046878
Well since the 3rd will be the last game we get for at least 2 years there's no real hurry to play them, just play at your own pace.
>>342048336
Takes that long to localize them, huh? Hm, maybe I should just play them in Nip. Just wanted to relax with an RPG in English for the first time in a long time. Well, for Trails in the Sky I guess it doesn't really matter, but for Cold Steel it might. Though it's not like I've got a shortage of games to play, my current list will last me for at least 2-3 years probably.

>>342052117
subjectively worst story, character
objectively least painful and boring turn based combat due to animation skip
objectively dumbed down Quartz system from previous games. Magic is nerfed but the OP meta of 200 CP double damage critical Scraft remains
>>342052117
It's pretty good. Battle system is quick and decent, lots of content, but it really drags in some spots. Worth it for the finale, which is pretty goddamn ballsy. No idea if CS2 is gonna be anywhere near as good as it needs to be to live up to the hype CS1 built up.
>>342052365
You don't make the game sound too good. I've always been cautious, but I'm even more so now that I've experienced Persona 3 and 4. I will never understand why anyone likes those games.
>>342052117
First game I completed in the series after Trails in the Sky not really grabbing my attention. It has a slow start too, but after I got into it, I really liked it. I'll go back and play Sky one of these days.
>>342042168

D I C K ! ! !
Hi, /v/. Don't forget to preorder TitS 3rd!
>>342052920
On the one hand, I kind of want to, but on the other, the combat in SC was so slow and boring that by the time it was ending I was so tired of it that I had to force myself to finish. I've heard people say 3rd's a combat-focused game, so I'm pretty wary of it.
>>342052117
I actually got started with CS. Once I finished, I picked up the Sky games almost immediately.
I actually like the cast a fair bit although Gaius could be removed and nothing really would matter that much. I expected the series to be your typical pseudo-scifi fantasy RPG though, being unknown to the series outside of the old Bandai butcher jobs that were the Moonlight Witch and Tear of Vermilion.I wasn't expecting SUDDENLY ROBOTS.
>>342053076
I agree. As much as I enjoy TitS it took me an obscenely amount of time to beat both games because combat is a slog beyond reasonable measure. Which is a damn shame too because it has strategical depth.
>>342053247
Gaius is there to showcase "people who aren't on any side but still get fucked over by the war tensions between two of the big powers." He's not necessary, but he puts a face to that particular aspect of the story.
>>342042168
I'm not buying it until they put dual audio or a 70% discount desu senpai.
Too much shit to play to be spending my time on half-assed games where they can't even be assed to put the ORIGINAL audio.

>>342054246
>Also, desu PS Store is waaaaaaaaaay too fucking expensive on my country,
That's why I switched to the US PSN.
>"I can read Japanese, I'll just use the Japanese PSN!"
>Those prices
>The prices on the US Store
>"Nah, I'll just use the US store."
>>342054597
Here on Brazil, they do something disgusting I don't think they do elsewhere, every game that has a physical edition has an absurd price, like LOH: Sen no Kiseki, whereas games without physical edition have good prices like Ateliers.
I never understood this, and this only keeps me from buying shit, I don't understand what they stand to gain with this.
>>342054597
sucks that the DLC is incompatible though if you import Japanese game and can't access JPSN if you main US PSN
>>342052117
Mediocre characters (one dimensional characters/development), boring story but this one is like the first TiTs where its more world building and shit blows up in the last 5 mins of the game.
Battle system is okay, nothing standout but nothing too boring if you play on hard mode.
Is it me or does Cold Steel have too much literally unwinnable battles? At least FC and SC, and even Ys Origin awards extra BP and a few extra changed dialog if you manage to win against these hard bosses.
>>342054849
That sounds insane.
>>342054862
Yeah that pisses me off. Most of the games I have or plan to buy either have no DLC or unimportant DLC like item starter packs. The only one that I care about is Cyber Slueth's, as it sounds like it's DLC might actually be worth it. Thought about buying the English version because I could use the DLC, and because it's quite a bit cheaper than the Japanese edition, but the localization is awful, so I'm just going to go with the Japanese version if it ever drops in price. Seriously, I can get Next Order for less than Cyber Sleuth right now.

Good localizations can go a long way. It's true that Japanese writing usually isn't so interesting. Not that stories and characters can't be interesting, I've been interested in things I've read and chuckled at jokes and have had my emotions stirred while reading things in Japanese, but when you really examine it, it seems like Japanese has such a limited lexicon.

I've thought about studying Chinese. I became interested when I read a bit about hanzi and how it sounds like they deal with it and its pronunciations in a sane way (as well as some other aspects of the language that just sound interesting). Trouble is, I have no idea what to use it for. I started learning Japanese mostly for video games, and I definitely don't regret it, but I can use it for other things as well. The only thing I can think of using Chinese for is Kung-fu movies and books about your chi.

I've heard that the dialogue is one of the biggest draws of the games, at least the Sora games, which has me wary, but then I enjoyed Planescape: Torment for the dialogue (though it's quite a bit different than Trails', I'm sure), but eh, may as well give it a shot.

It's the damnest thing I tell you. So many people loved war during peace and wanted peace at war.
One insurrection later, and so many Imperials hate war all the time! They want it kept far and away. And that doesn't mean that they love peace - just that they want the absence of war for themselves.
And Calvard has become no different. The threat of war - rather than war itself - was already the language of our countries. Now it's the life of the party, and deterrence has the floor!
But hey, then again, is it not the responsibility of the highest authorities to confront their foes even under the harshest of deprivations?
Soon, weak rulers and their ilk shall learn a lesson about how power can just as easily set a man free as it can smash him into dust.

Yeah I know what you mean. The biggest reason I started studying Japanese is so I could play games in Japanese. While I like playing certain games in Japanese, really Japanesey games like Fatal Frame for example, or games with bad localizations, as long as the localization is good I actually like playing games in English. Though I went through a phase where I had to play everything that was Japanese in Japanese.

If you're having a lot of trouble with a boss, grind to the next level. Makes a huge difference. The leveling system is really weird.
If I disliked Working Designs' localizations, is it likely that I will also dislike XSEED? I did feel like Working Designs made some minor improvements by elaborating in places where the japanese was too short and simple, but I didn't like how they totally changed some lines, added lots of shitty jokes/memes/out of place references, and mistranslated some words.

Felghana is not grindy at all. Just fight through all the enemies in a dungeon once and you should be sufficiently leveled.
>>342073515
No the grinding is really minimal. Grinding isn't a good word. Just go one more level up but only if you're having difficulty. It just made a big difference to me for some bosses.
>>342073353
I've often heard that Xseed is one of the best Japanese to English localization studios as far as video games go.
>>342042367
Do these two ever hook up? I've played FC and SC and am waiting for translations for 3rd and Crossbell before jumping into CS because I've heard that CS has spoilers for those games.
Also, I'll never not be mad at finding out that CS is haremshit. Some of the best parts of FC and SC were the side romances/developments. Having MC hog all the girls for himself is tired anime shit.

Enami Katsumi only did art for zero,ao and ys7
From twitter:
>結構勘違いされてるんだけど閃の軌跡には僕はかかわってませんw 関わってるのは零と碧とイース7だけですね。閃の絵描きさんの功績がこっちに流れてきちゃうのは申し訳なくて。
I've been trying to find out who the names of the artists who worked on Sen but apparently there's no specific name(s) of them in the credits. It is believed that the artwork for Sen was drawn by Falcom's in-house artists
>>342074057
So another artist did the art for Celceta and Sen? What about Ys vs Sora and Ys Chronicles, who did the art for that?
>>342073413
I don't need Jorg to make me anything. The Black Factory is mine, as is all of Rosenburg Studio.
All he needs to do is fix up Ordine.
Which he'll do because he, if no one else, understands what happens when control nodes in a continent wide system go down.

How can such a boring by the definition sleepy kuudere with unfitting backstory have such a lewd tummy?

Learning Japanese is kind of ruining localized games for me. Sometimes I like to just chill with English games because no matter how good I get with Japanese, I'll always be most comfortable with English. But so many localizers make such questionable decisions. Though I think some people give certain ones too much shit. I don't know about Xseed, but from what I've seen of the Persona 3 and 4 localizations, horrible handling of honorifics aside (I'm not just talking about using them, but other things), they seem pretty good. Don't know about SMT, I haven't played them yet. Trying to decide what language I want to play them in, for one.
>>342074291
Because.
>>342074301
Having playthrough Kiseki in three languages, I have to say English adds the most charm through localization. Estelle's あんですって!? Might be gone, but her showing off her big and long rod works just as well to back up her spunky personality
>>342074301
Well for one, Japanese isnt your main spoken language. I dont know about you, but as someone who also knows a second language i will always prefer things in English.
>>342074220
Eh at worst the Water Septerrion awakens. Whats the worse that can happen? Church and Society agent will recover it anyways
>>342074209
Don't know, but if they're not credited then they're probably Falcom's artists.
I haven't checked the credits for the other Falcom games but I've heard that the artists who did Ys vs Sora could be the same artists who did the artwork for Sen
>>342074631
Three languages? Damn. I guess you like the games. I think people are generally too harsh on localizations. Yeah, some are really fucking horrid, but some are shit on for small things.
>>342074886
Esteemed Jorg has more than enough experience with what happens to the general population when the Church and the Society are left to their devices with the treasures of the Goddess.
He has no desire to see that hellspawn of a alchemist repeat her insanity, in the Empire or anywhere else.
>>342074301
Eh I'd rather know what they're saying than be ignorant. Take neps for instance. The lines don't match up with the japanese dialogue 1 to 1 with its loosey goosey translation, but it's still enjoyable in it's own way. It does bother me on a more serious game though. Tales of Hearts R's translation really bothered me.
>>342076263
>Tales of Hearts R's translation really bothered me.
Yeah, that's one I'll play in Nip for sure if I ever actually play it, I've heard about that one's localization, it sounds pretty bad.
>>342074301
>>342074631
How long did it take you guys until you could read Kiseki? I'm kind of interested and I bet it would be faster than wauting for Zero and Ao to get localized.
>>342076771
I haven't played Kiseki yet. Well, just a couple hours of both the Japanese and English version, and it didn't seem too hard in Japanese. I have a feeling it'll be even easier than Persona 3 and 4, but I only played two hours, what do I know?
I've been studying for three years. How soon you can do it depends on you though. You may take longer than me. You may be good to go sooner than me. Just keep at it and now that you must suck at the language and struggle through everything to get better and you'll be fine. Just keep your motivation up, that's really important. Eventually you'll hit a point where you don't have to worry about that, but until then, try to stay motivated.
>>342077546
Do you take classes or are you self- taught?
>>342078347
Self-taught. Learned all I have through books, internet articles, and other people I've asked. Doing fan-translations have helped a lot (and let into official work too, so that's cool).
>>342078707
lead into*
>>342078707
Wow, thats pretty impressive. I suppose i should get started soon.
>>342079430
Need an idea where to start, or do you think you're good?
>>342079689
That would be helpful, yes.
I know hiragana and katakana can be learned relatively quickly, any specific order which to learn first?
And since i only want to learn to how to read is writing practice going to be beneficial?
>>342080216
I started with Genki. You can buy it or pirate it, it doesn't matter. There's two in the series, though I only went through the first because it started to get a bit too verbose for me at the end, and I just read Tae Kim's grammar guide. Still, I really enjoyed how much detail it went into at first. Check out both it and Tae Kim's Grammar Guide.
I'd focus on hiragana first, but it doesn't take too long to learn either. I just forced myself to read it in Genki's sample sentences and learned hiragana in a week (took longer for katakana, but that's because I didn't see it as much in Genki. Once you start reading it, it'll be quite to learn). You can also download Anki and use kana decks, it's a flash card program. You can get pre-made decks here https://ankiweb.net/shared/decks/japanese
A kanji deck will be helpful later. Get a Joyo Kanji deck to start with. Don't put kanji off for too long, I know it's intimidating, but it's not that bad once you get into it.

Damn son, I was supposed to finish before Cold Steel II. Multiple NPCs with constantly changing dialogue are my weak point.
The plethora of games being released on Vita is not helping either.
>>342080708
Be sure to read. You could read some fairytales for children if you want, but I just played video games and read Dragon Ball. As long as it's something you're interested in, that'll help. Of course there are limits. Don't pick Fatal Frame III as your first video game in Japanese, you won't have a good time.
I've also seen people recommending Yatsubato. I've never read it, but it seems like good early practice reading. No matter what you start with, it's going to be hard. It's like that for everyone. You'll get better without realizing it.
For games, most things will be good. I liked playing JRPGs because they had a lot of text. Either old games from the 80s and 90s for little to no kanji or 3DS games since a lot of them have furigana. Again, don't ignore kanji for too long.
I'd recommend writing eventually. I didn't do much handwriting, but I do try to write either in Japanese online. Talking to Japanese people on Skype or making entries on Lang-8 (which I've been ignoring for two months, damn it). It may not seem like it, but learning how to write/speak will help with the language in general. So will listening, something I really don't do as much as I should.
I think that's all the starting advice I have, at least off the top of my head. If you have any questions I'd be happy to try to answer them as long as this thread exists.

Thanks, much appreciated. Don't want to get too overwhelmed before i even start, so thats all for now. You've given enough advice and the rest is up to me.
