Is it good? Is it fun? Should I buy it?
It' alright. The biggest issue I have is it's a weird midground between 1 and 2 in terms of how the games meant to be played. The time limit is meaningless because of how easily you can collect fruit and a lot of the bosses are too easy except for the last which is way harder than any before him.

The hardest boss in 3 is the Mireclops. The only way the Plasm Wraith is hard is if you use any other Pikmin that arent rock.
Titan Dweevil from 2 is much more threatning.

3 is not worse than 2. 3 involves much more strategy to get the best times with fruit and enemies.
2 is literally just stomp everything with purple pikmin. Also fuck those boring ass underground caves.
I wish 3 kept the piklopedia though, and the Titan dweevil is a really cool final boss.

2 has better enemies, 1 handles the time limit better. The only reason to play 3 is the go here command that lets you automate some of what's happening to make things quicker.

The Caves, while you go through them, restrict your ability to get more Pikmin when you lose them. So you have to go through them keeping casualties to a minimum, or else the later levels might be too difficult.
It also has two knds of Pikmin that are rare enough that conserving them is always a priority. There's a treasure late in the game that require 100 purple pikmin, when the most purple-plentiful dungeon in the game gives 15 per run.

It also has the only hazard in any of the 3 games that is insta-kill.
While the restriction of not using Bomb Rocks might seem like a boon, that means you also can't use it as a nuke-all for tougher enemies. Notably, when fighting Emporer Bulblax again, tricking him into eating Bomb Rocks is a nexercise in frustration.
Every dungeon has a wide variety of elements, so using Reds and Purples as the bulk of your force isn't an option.

Pikmin 2 is only difficult if you swear off ever using purple Pikmin.
If you play 2, remember that it's possible to get 29 Purples in the emergence cave. Just throw 10 reds in, leave, throw only 9, leave and then throw 10. It's really helpful and lets you sequence break

There's a bonus mode where they give you some maps for free, and in those maps you either race against the clock to fight enemies or collect treasure. They made a few extra maps as paid DLC.

If you liked 1 or 2 chances are you will like this one. Its got a few odd spikes of challenge and getting all the fruit in a timely manner can be pretty damn hard, but for the most part expect it to be pretty easy going

How the hell do you find the first Pikmin game to be the hardest? That game can easily be completed 100% in a few hours and doesn't contain that many threats compared to the other two games. The real order of difficulty is 2>3>1
