What are your fondest memories of Nostalrius?
And what do you look most forward to / hope for on the new Blizzard hosted vanilla servers?
>>
My favourite memory was the mass slaying of those chink farmers. I felt like Hitler re-incarnate as I rampaged through the barrens slaughtering every chink I came across, Man Women and Ork alike, I viciously murdered them all in cold blood as I effectively began the Chinkocaust, all for the greater good of the server.

the part where it went down and everyone cried at /v/ :^)
Also the big part of vanilla was that the databases werent a big thing, you had to explore and ask other people for information. Nowdays every patch of any game is datamined like 10months in advance.
Its impossible to replicate vanilla, stop trying

when kern thought it made him relevant again

lmao that was gold

As if that takes away from the experience and community, people still used thottbot and shit back then, there's barely a difference

I think of the closing as one of my fondest memories. The onset of 'permadeath' brought us together, seeking solace in what little time we had left together. We organized all sorts of pass-times, since raiding, dungeons, farming, all we knew suddenly became meaningless.

I was in a dungeon group, having just finished clearing the boss-room of Emperor Thaurissian, ready to start the fight, saving princess. I was an overgeared tank looking for the Hand of Justice (http://db.vanillagaming.org/?item=11815) or perhaps even Ironfoe (http://db.vanillagaming.org/?item=11684)

However, as we cleared the last pack, I noticed that the world chat was suddenly lighting up with intensity.
At first i thought it was a bad april's fools joke, but then we realized that it was not.

That was Thaurissian's one lucky day. Must've banged Princess all night long.

We, however, quickly hearthstoned to our major cities, and saw that everything, everyone, was gathered, and asking questions.
What to do?
Where to go?

Nobody knew. However, a few of us set out to have some final hours of fun.
We first went to Arathi, seeking hordes. We ended up at the gates of Orgrimmar.

I remember my very final moments, where I logged out, was on the top of Ironforge's mountain. You're not supposed to be able to get up there, however, with a little hazzle, you can get up there from Loch Modan. Takes a while, but its all worth it.

I was very surprised to find others there. We joined around a campfire and decided to let it sink in there. And that taught me why I love vanilla so much. It becomes something real.

I hope to find a good guild like Ragnarok.
To run into someone like Bomboclatt again, a Dutch homie that sounded just like a Jamaican.
He taught me to love guns ingame, however much worse they were for a tank.

"Nothin' like plinkin sum noobs whit mah GUN"
I'll see you again my rogue friend

Am I the only one that absolutely LOVE the complete mess of items that vanilla is? The abundant trinkets that are just that - trinkets, little things with magic imbued that does some weird sort of thing. I'd occasionally even keep shitty sets of armour, that I enjoyed wearing for the sake of style.

Making alts for the purposes of extra bank space, as you just had such an abudance of gems, minerals, herbs, the lot. I for one, loved the auction house. I never used the auctioneer bots as they just spent an hour or more indexing stuff that was irrelevant next week. I'd just spend my time fishing Greater Sagefish for the healer's Sagefish Delights, or doing the mad dashes in Alterac Valley for the Black Lotus, a 100g+ herb...

It was all there. Items mattered. A hoarders dream.

That looks like less players than what I see on a typical reset day on the Gilgamesh server in FFXIV.

I'd only play legacy servers if they followed vanilla -> newest expansion (with less time between xpacs), and only if major disbalances between classes/specs would be fixed.

I don't want another "The sl/sl Crusade", "Wrath of the Melee King" or "World of Warcraft: Casterclysm".
