Pre dlc the consensus was that BB was a really good game. Dlc drops and is fantastic. Somehow the narrative becomes that it was shit before the dlc. People latch onto this opinion and people who would have said it was good 6 months before are now saying the base game is "shit".

Holy shit it's fucking eerie how "sentient" the enemies feel in this game.
It's like the generic footsoldier enemies in Demon's Souls who simultaneously felt human in comparison to the dregelings yet so stiff and robotic.
Pretty big DS fan here, not gonna lie BB is exactly what Souls should have been and more. It's pretty nice how they relaxed some of the dumb shit in Souls like the tiny parry window and gave us some nice cities with decent detail.

There's actually lots of room types, and you encounter more as you play. The enemy/item placement is varied and you can make some really really hard set ups out of the right combinations. The fact that it is completely optional and extra content is really awesome in my opinion, considering how good it is. Also it does contain unique items and bosses that you can't find in the main game, as well as the best runes and very rare drops like the ring of betrothal. People who don't like the chalice dungeons need to try them again, imo. Maybe put on some music and just grind through them like you would in Diablo. That's what they're there for.

It's a shitty mechanic and abusing them instead of having to properly position yourself feels retarded.
The blood vial system is the worst health regeneration system they've come up with by far, even worse than grass in DeS.
Chalice dungeons are fucking terrible, and is a total waste of resources that would've been better spent making the main base game much better.
The only two good bosses in the base game are Gascoigne and Gascoigne: Final Boss Edition. Even then, the DLC only added 3 more good bosses, bringing that to a whopping 5 decent boss fights.
The hunter npc fights are absolutely atrocious, and the invasion is unnecessarily convoluted when compared to other Souls games
Lack of build variety as well when compared to other Souls games.
The game gets by with fantastic lore, story, music, atmosphere and decent gameplay. I'd give it a solid 8/10, worse than DaS and DaS3, better than DeS and DaS 2. I feel like a lot of problems could be fixed with a BB2, and I do hope they release one.

I picked it up last Christmas when I got my PS4. I regret not buying the collector's edition when I had the chance. It's fucking incredible, the highest point in the Souls series. DSIII comes in a close second but BB actually changed things up in the established formula, and I adore the weapon designs.

You just have to tune the amount of estus so players feel the need to recover their health attacking rather than healing all the time, which is what happens now, but if you die after a long stretch now you may not have enough vials to even make it where you died.
Apparently you never had to farm, so you always had 20 vials. What's the difference between having 20 vials, dying and having 20 on the stash, and having always max vials when dying?

Also, some areas shower you with vials while others don't drop any, making some zones pointless while making others too punishing if you die.
