Something similar happened to me 10 years ago when i played the game for the first time. My brother picked that one up and was like "woah dude its a magnum, but its broken, maybe it needs a part to work like in RE2"

I've played plenty of actual FPS games without using a weapon model at all, it's like a slightly less terrible version of seeing your entire character on the screen in a console game

it not only blocks your vision, but it slows down rendering as well

by admitting that there's an aesthetic side to an FPS game that shouldn't be disabled, you're essentially admitting that you're playing pretend, and don't care about challenge or multiplayer

This way you still have your finger on the trigger and you don't need to take more time to aim by pointing the barrel in the sky as you charge the handle.

Something I would suggest is go to a gun range or borrow a gun from a buddy and record yourself doing the various things with the gun. That'll help keep your animations from looking robotic.
