Spoony is the perfect example of how gaining fame in the internet age is easier than handling it. He originally worked on his channel for fun, reviewing old PC games he had played before and honestly disliked.
When he joined Channel Awesome, he got a lot more views, but also a lot more pressure to put out content on a regular basis. He had to review games he wouldn't have played otherwise to keep the content flowing, which burnt him out.
Of course those years weren't all bad, but you could tell there was tension with other Channel Awesome producers behind the scenes, and he had trouble meeting a schedule, so he was on thin ice.
Then the incident with Lupa happened, at the same time his bipolar disorder was really bad, and his whole life crashed. His passion is gone forever.
Now he's obviously a broken man and doesn't want to make review videos anymore, but it's been about a decade since he last had a normal job so he doesn't want that either.
Once decently successful in his niche, now he's just scraping by on Patreon donations, pushing out what little content he can bear to. If he had never made it big, he probably would've retired his channel gracefully long ago.

The heyday of Spoony was amazing, and I personally think he was one of the better Internet personalities. He has this air of authenticity about him that made me feel like he could be any one of us here on this board. Clearly a super nerd, recluse, and hates almost everything while being deeply passionate about his niche.
Oh well. Can anyone recommend me someone who makes videos like Spoony used to?

I think this is mostly accurate. We can blame Channel Awesome or Scarlett as much as we'd like, but a stable man wouldn't have put himself into such an unstable environment to begin with.

Lupa provoked him by bringing up Scarlett and said he didn't deserve any sympathy because of a bad joke he made once. Spoony retaliated in force, and was suspended from Channel Awesome for a month. He kept ranting, though, and then he was fired outright.

To be fair, I think that had a lot to do with many of those producers being dedicated SJWs. Spoony seems to be on good terms with Doug Walker, though; they've done several videos together since Spoony's departure.

I think the most magical thing about Spoony is it really shows how effort gets you places and not doing anything, gets you nowhere. Sure that is common sense.
But consider how different Spoony and Angry Joe were on Channel Awesome Website

AJ never gave up, he kept pushing out content and shit, and now is pretty damn popular. Unlike Spoony, who became less popular.
