One explanation is that Neanderthals hunt bigger animals and they didn't so as much when they were less big animals after the ice age. Homosapien sapien were also more widespread and had a diverse diet.
It's hard to say exactly why Homosapien sapien survived but those reasons don't need to be physical strength or intelligence.
