Hey /v/, i don't know if this is the board for this subject, but my ps3 won't play blu ray movies. The games work just fine (aren't they supposed to be blu ray discs?) but when i put a blu ray movie it doesn't even say "error" or something, it just makes some "loading" noises and then nothing appears. Do any of you have this problem?

The reason I ask is because these BD drives have 2 lenses. one specifically for BD discs, one for DVD/CD and from the sound of it it's got a bad lens now.
Granted if you say the game discs aren't a problem it could still be related since it can use the other lens to read the discs as well
I've fixed PS3 BD drives before, I have no idea why this is a problem but it usually is the issue.

Take that fucker apart and replace it with this. That or find someone to do it for you. Your warranty (if relevant) will be voided if you do this but this is what happens when one of the lenses fails.
Also to add, that model (4300 in general) has the least information because people genuinely stopped caring about the ps3 at the superslims

if youre unsure about it, open up the system (carefully) and the lens/drive assembly should have models labeled on them
If thats the wrong one for some reason go look for a seller selling one with those models specifically.

Happened to me too OP. After a firmware update it just stopped working. Then it randomly begin to work again after another update. Try tilt your console a bit lifting the fron if you keep it horizontal. Sometimes it worked for me
