I just realized you can use the modding tools to make 3D render of your own fantasy world map, you're into that kind of thing.

It should be relatively easy, since everything is done by starting with a line drawing of your world map in Photoshop/Gimp, and then just coloring it in different ways that the game engine of EU4 can then interpret and render.

In the end, you could make a 3D fantasy map that looks like this:

That you can zoom in on and look at in the different EU4 map modes and take screenshot of provinces and kingdoms if you wanted.

If I had to make a map, I'd just find an area on Earth and use that as the sea/ocean design.

Just look at the English channel, you turn the Southern part of England into an island, change up the terrain a bit, maybe make England Snowy and have decent map design that isn't

Loads of places are even better, Tunisia/Sicily, Croatia, a lot of East Asia.

But seriously, if you based your fantasy universe on this map, how the fuck would the kingdoms work? I'd imagine that world full of pirates and rebellions. They would have to use ships to take food and supplies to taken islands with no agriculture of their own. Simple rock islands would be for watchtowers and fortresses, but the same problem there. I always get upset with how the map is in Runescape, It feels so bunched together with everything added around that middle sea. No effort to push the islands out at all.

Why cant we have vertical worlds with fucked up space-time, several suns and "worlds" existing side-by-side in a very strange, twirling fashion? Yet every world is big enough that you'd never suspect the presence of other worlds. Separated by bottomless chasms, mountains that indeed reach the blue sky (which is in fact just a ceiling), vortexes in the storms and seas. Pathways on land, sea and air that can't be navigated, tracked down or properly used for anything but adventuring with big risks of getting stranded in-between worlds for a long time.

If the two Golden Sun games were combined into one game like they were originally supposed to be, they would probably have the most complete world map of any game ever made.

Has any other game actually featured an entire world with multiple culturally distinct continents that are all fleshed out and actually feel like different continents in the real world?

Most RPG worlds feel more like a country than a world, even if the map is supposed to cover the whole planet. Usually with a couple of "token ethnicity" towns that come off more like Arabic or Japanese themed family resorts than actual different lands.

I really liked this map. One of the few that has a believable scale.

That's of course because it's just an island. But I wish devs would more often make a map of a small area instead of a region that's huge in the lore, as ingame it's as small as a neighbourhood.

I still can't figure out why writers are allergic to fantasy names. It's always something "X of Y" or "the" between two nonsensical words. Just use fucking fantasy terminology, come up with your own naming convention, etc. Morrowind did. They could've called Balmora "Stone Forest", because that's what it apparently means translated, but they chose not to.

It is much much smaller than Pokemon Red/Blue.
Probably take around 3 minutes to walk across though, which is decent.

Even with dark world and the dungeons I'd say pokemon is at least twice as large.

True dat. Proper interconnectivity and players having to think about how to traverse are required for me. Having just big ass open sandbox where all you do is walk from point A to B is boring as fuck and generally worse unless the game has interesting means for traversal and you feel like you're learning shortcuts consistently.
