So I'm a 3DS baby, and only got into Fire Emblem when it managed to bait me in with VN elements and waifus.
After enjoying it, I decided to go back and see what I'd missed. I managed to get a hold of an old Gamecube and after a little ebay'ing (and more money than I'd liked) I started playing pic related.
Holy fuck this is amazing.
I knew not casualized FE had become until I started playing this.
It may be my favorite Fire Emblem to date, and I'm going to have a really hard time playing the newer ones now.

It's the peak of the series really. Nothing after can really compare to it.

Eh. Was never a big fan of FE9. Combat animations were poor, the beast people seemed pointless to use, characters were dry and the plot was weak.
The gameplay is about the only thing about the game that was memorable.

I played FE9 coming off of 8 and 7 before that.
To me, everything except the graphics and amount of chapters felt like a downgrade from those games. Dark magic was gone, mercs were gone. Paladins and Generals lost the ability to wield all weapons on the triangle.
One thing I really enjoyed from FE7 and 8 were multiple protagonists. 9 just had Ike, and I never got attached to him as much as I did for characters like Lyn and Hector.
8 also introduced the 'baby' classes as I call them (They promote into a base class like knight, mage, etc.) and had a world map. FE9 didn't carry any of this over. Though to be fair, not having a world map I can forgive, as the FE games without a world map are more driven by the story anyways.
