Im looking to start the MGS series where should i start from and in what order
Chart's a bit out of date, but still good.You're lucky you weren't here to see the series die.

Not surprising, game is generally more enjoyable for newcomers than for longtime fans.

After that you can branch out and play the original Metal Gear/Metal Gear 2, MGR, other games in the series.
So just play them in order of release. Have fun, it's a real interesting series.

Metal Gear 2 is a very enjoyable game. Actually excellent for what there was to work with at the time.
It's a shame it never gets much attention. Especially since MGS1 shows so much inspiration and borrows so many aspects of MG2.It's quite possibly my favorite MG game even now.

It's completely fine and tells a great story, unless you were expecting anakin skywalker 2.0.
Venom's story clearly highlights how much of a villain BB was and stays true to the theme of sensationalist distortion of legends

This is the order in which you should play the games in. If you don't care about a drop in gameplay quality because of the game's age, then play it like this:

I'd say you can gloss over MGS2 toward the end, Kojima really gets crazy with the story and it hardly makes sense.
But MGS3 is amazing, MGS4 is pretty good, and MGS5 has it's moments but loses it's appeal by the end.
The entire catalog is good, and I would start from the beginning. But I think #2 has weak points in the story, #4 has weak points in the story and the gameplay, and #5 has weak points in all aspects of the game

Mgs2 is the most overrated shit. I feel sorry for people who have to go through it for the first time now. Fortunately, the Legacy Collection comes with the animated and dubbed Digital Graphic Novelization of it too.

The VA and OST are shit, game play is butchered by using old maps and enemy placements with the newere moves, you don't "level up" after bosses, but instead start with maxxed HP and ammo, the graphics look washed out and flat, and don't get me even started about the Matrix bullshit cutscenes that also make Snake act like an ADHD teenager.

It's the worst MGS game held back immensely by the PSP's limitations.
I tried to like it but the plot and gameplay were both really fucking garbage.
The comic cutscenes were cool but ruined by the shitty tweening.

I too have only recently started playing the MG(S) series. I've always wanted to, but never came around to actually do so, simply because the majority of the series was PS-exclusive and I've always had a PC + Nintendo combo.
After playing MGS V (over 500 hours) I knew I needed to catch up on the series.
So I bought a PS3 and the legendary collection. I've already played through Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake and Metal Gear Solid. I just beat Fatman from Metal Gear Solid 2.
Afterwards I'll play Metal Gear Solid 3, Metal Gear Solid 4 and Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker. Maybe I'll replay Metal Gear Solid V and Metal Gear Rising too if I feel like it.

Play MGS1, then 2, then 3, then 4, then stop. MGSV is a generic open world garbage (and I don't even care about the story), no need to play it, especially if you like the series.
