Skyward Sword was easily the worst legit Zelda game. The flight mechanic sucked, the art style irritated me to no end, the reuse of content killed me (figuratively) each time I had to revisit an area just to unlock the next part. I hated the combat, too. The only good thing about Skyward Sword was the music and the final boss because it's the only part of the game that gave me any kind of challenge. Here's hoping that BoTW is as amazing as it looks.

My hugest fear for this game has already been dispelled to some degree by the recent gameplay footage we saw. I was worried that "open world" would mean big, open areas with no content, where all you do is hold the stick forward. Kind of like those big open oceans in Wind Waker, where you don't really do anything meaningful and you're just waiting to be taken to the next area of actual content.

But, from what we saw, Link moves pretty fast and there are always enemies to fight, something to explore, treasure to find, etc. I didn't watch the whole thing, I only watched it for an hour or so, but from what I saw they were always doing something fun.

Not the same. In BotW, it's solely for movement. Even against the rock boss, it was just for movement. You can't attack while climbing.
Furthermore, there's no indication that clinging onto enemies will throw them off-balance or slow them down. Though I imagine there will probably be at least one enemy where this will be the case.

Have nothing to do with Dragon's Dogma specifically, and are a staple in many action RPGs, including Skyrim, The Witcher, and to a limited degree, even Souls.

I'm more worried about it falling into the other open world trap of loads of shitty side quests. No repetitive or quest marked quests like those in Skyrim, Xenoblade, or any Ubi game, if they have to have side content let it be large game spanning quests like the skulltula hunt or trading quests that don't interrupt exploration.

I would love it to have no side quests at all, just shrines and dungeons around the world to find. And for none of them to be marked on the map.

As far as early game goes, I think the amount of shit you could do was pretty on point.
Obviously I expect more enemies later on and perhaps some loot that isn't just a new better weapon, but again, it's the very first area in an enormous world. It might not feel like it's the first area due to how many hours the Treehouse managed to cram into that one area, but it's definitely only the beginning for sure.

There was an article in a previous thread earlier today that practically proved that Aonuma, Fujibayashi and Miyamoto would've fucked up again and given us Skyward Sword 2.0 if it weren't or Monolith (AKA NEW FUCKING BLOOD) intervening and telling Aonuma to let go of traditions that he followed but didn't even know why anymore.

If it weren't for them, I'm certain that the game would be a disaster.

I really want to like this game, but comparing side by side the footage from there and the footage from here now has me realize just how little there is going to be. If I didn't have these maps for comparison, I would never be able to tell you those 2 areas were different places. Worse yet, the sheer travel time. They have a huge time laps in the demo they show off of going 1 squares distance. Their idea of getting close to it was "4 more minutes on horseback"
