Square-enix is wasting their time on some muh mature story shit when they can be wasting their time on making Final fantasy crystal chronicles 2
never going to happen. The original crystal chronicles was seen as a massive failure and squeenix doesn't want to admit it was because of the fucking retarded requirement for having the GBAs for multiplayer.
The subsequent DS spinoff shits, whilst INFINITELY inferior to the original game, were better received. Then came crystal bearers, a visually gorgeous game with great story but laughable gameplay (if you can even call it that) which only further marred the franchise.
Both console CC games were poorly received and have solidified the franchises future as a portable only series.
My Life as a King was pretty cool but it lacked proper customization such as specific resident placements and any real endgame. Not to mention when you had the town even half full the game chugged to an almost complete stop.

The world is shrouded in this toxic gas called miasma that kills anybody that breathes it in for too long. Only thing that protects against that shit is crystals, but the big ones used to protect towns and cities run outta juice if you don't recharge them with this holy water thing called myrrh. Each year every settlement send out a caravan is to fill a chalice with myrrh, but they can only get it from these weird crystalline trees that are protected by a bunch of monsters and shit.
Throughout the game as you talk to people, many of them say how they just keep forgetting things more and more often as time goes on. By the end of the game you find the reason why (and I think the source of all the miasma too, don't remember).

FFXIV was even bigger and it took a full reboot to save it. FFXV has many things against it that FFXIV didn't even have. Chief among them being the Duke Nukem Forever effect.

The music in Crystal Chronicles is amazing. But I never played it when it came out because I didn't like the style and past FF games like IX burned me out.
What's so good about it? Besides the ability to play with others since I'm obviously not doing that.

Loved Crystal Chronicles as a kid, but looking back, the item management system was terrible. The graphics were really good for a gamecube game, and the music was memorable.

The story is pretty nice, but quite minimalistic in comparison to other FF games. The gameplay is... Eh, at best. It's quite repetitive and not very engaging. I would recommend playing it if you friends willing to play it with you, because otherwise you will probably be bored to tears.
The highlights of the game are definitely the music and visuals though. Also those narrations at the beginning of each level are amazing.

It was just in development for way too long.

Eh the DLC tower in My Life as a King was decent endgame content. Although Floors 80+ were full of bullshit to prevent once pimped out party from clearing tons of floors in a single trip.

People only care about the numbered FF games. So far none of the numbered FF games post 6 have been on consoles. Fucking hell, not even the Nintendo spinoffs have numbered sequels. Square is Sony (and Microsoft) property first and foremost.

Despite all the hate, I had a lot of fun with DS CC. Ring of fate had garbage multiplayer but okay single player content. Echoes of time was purely designed for multiplayer and it was fun doing that. All the chaos caused by massive input delays for whoever's not the host cause cancer but still fun. Throwing each other and reaching seemingly impossible to reach location was also great. God I miss playing these stupid ass games with friends as a kid
