HL2 is a Valve game, of course it uses their DRM.
Developers have to use a DRM of some sort, or the game is freely shareable.
Its not Valve's fault developers come to Steamworks for DRM protection, its simply the best DRM there is because it comes with a the bonuses of being on the Steam digital shop as well.
But you're still wrong, because Steam =/= Steamworks. Same as Uplay =/= Ubisoft DRM or Origin =/= EA DRM. They are distribution platforms, the actual DRM part is entirely separate.

But they're not locked to a platform. They're available on several consoles. They do follow through with what they say, they allow their games to be played in a variety of ways. Just because they say that exclusivity is a bad thing doesn't mean they have to make their games freely available for everybody to run on absolutely everything, every configuration for every demand just to please the 1% of GoG shitflingers in the market.
