>Okay, so, I need you to get these three other guys against your will to help me break into the Sierra Madre. Do NOT disobey me in any way or, the bomb collar around your neck will explode and kill you.
>Oh, and, speaking of: there are also various radios around here tuned into the same frequency as the detonator. So, don't get too close or fail to turn them off, otherwise, they'll kill you.
>This entire place is filled with a noxious gas that corrodes you with every passing moment. If you stay in it too long it'll kill you.
>Oh, or, if you fall asleep in it, it will kill you.
>OH, and, there's pockets that are a lot more thicker and deadlier. Don't go into those unless you can really take a good corroding or, else, that will really kill you.
>There's also a lot of dead people walking around in the gas. They're sort of invincible, unless you rip off a limb they keep getting up so, and there's always a lot of them around so try to avoid them or else they'll kill you.
>There are also holographic projections that will physically attack you if they see you, they are DEFINITELY invincible so stay out of their sight or, they'll kill you.
>There's lots of goodies lying around to help buuuuuuut there's also a lot of assholes I had do this before that put traps, bombs, tripwires, sometimes around useful shit that will trigger when you get close and kill you.
>Am I forgetting anything.... ah, right, if ANY of your team-mates die, all collars will explode at once and kill you.

Dead Money was such a chore to playthrough.
Only Dog/God was likeable, but all the others were boring or I couldn't sympathize with them in any form, plus all the running around and fighting zombie people didn't help.

The only good thing is that I always steal a few gold lingots from the vault/safehouse at the end.

I kept him as God as much as I could, tried to make him switch with his command at the end but it didn't work. is he fun as Dog? God is just grumpy and talking down to you a lot- interesting but I wouldn't exactly call him likeable, though that's a matter of taste I guess

Fallout: Steel Horse, a game about working for the company which is to restore the railroads going east. Same basic kind of gameplay, but you're moved around from place to place more as you work with different problems at different sites. not that the map is enormous- you're fast traveled between different, smaller maps for a grand total of maybe a bit more land than the Mojave. a spinoff I guess, wouldn't be enough for an entire standalone release. The improvement would be that, as you cover larger swathes of land you interact with a lot of different factions, peoples and nations. Your role as an intermediate in grand scale political ongoings becomes even more pronounced. it's basically NV politics ^2.

New faction... I can't really think of anything
>>
>>341792179
I also went as God in my run, but he is likeable (in my opinion) since he is a product of the context were he grew up and used a defense mechanism that made him survive as long as he could.
On one hand he could be smart and sardonic, on the other he could be mindless but obedient. Both serve a purpose and I guess that speaks about people too, we sometimes hide our "God" type of personality to survive in society and as a result we autopilot as Dog in work or college or whatever.

We also tend to think that our (or other's) God is "bad", just as we are inclined to think that God is "bad" for how he talks to us, but in the end he has no reason to trust us, but we forget that he acts as human as us in distrusting everything, on the other hand Dog might be more likeable simply because we can manipulate him to our advantage.

In the end I got the "best" Dog/God ending when I reconciled both personalities, and I guess that the teaching of all of this is that we should learn to be like that. We can't be super childish Dog, nor super distrustful God.

Maybe I read too much into the character too though, but the others were fucking boring to be honest.

>Fallout: Dead South
>Takes place a year after NV (as to avoid confirming any canon ending at Hoover Dam, leaving NV ambiguous)
>PC is the called "The Northerner", although his/her home is never specified. They are simply referred to as such because they lack the Southern accent
>Faction system spills over from NV into Dead South.
>Neo Confederates/New Dixie; possess a Southern fetishism and a desire to unite the former Confederate states. Capital is Vestavia (formally Birmingham, Alabama). New Orleans has been renamed "Stonewall", and is more of a refuge for Asian-Americans.
>Knights of the Burnt Cross; resurgence of the KKK, only adapted to the more realistic attitudes the KKK may have had in the alternate time frame, namely they are extremely anti-Asian and anti-communistic.
>Baton Rouge/La Baton; Years of suppression under the Knights and the annexation of Stonewall has led to a surge of independence movements. French/Arcadian themed culture.

There are also a huge assortment of raider/fourth party factions e.g each antebellum manor house has it's own prosperous faction (which the player can persuade to join/attack another main faction)

Tribals also return, namely the Damballah, a Haitian Vodou themed nomadic culture who are pouring in via Florida in droves, and are destroying everything in their wake.

We have like a 60,000 word design document or something extreme like that covering all this, including all the companions, dialogue, perks, skill changes etc

Fallout Germany, Berlin The Old Wall

The Berlin wall was there till the end of the great war. Germany was still divided, the european commonwealth in the West (before the resource wars), the chinese/russians in the East. In Berlin there was an american sector with a few Vaults, the rest were Bunkeranlagen (BA) operated by the German Army, then, when the recource war broke out, the Germany army divided in a Pro-Commonwealth and a Pro-Unification part. The Pro-Commonwealth part was really small, shunned and hated, called defectors by the GRA.

GRA (German resistance army) as a neither positive or negative faction. It survived the great war in their facilities, of whom some are as old as WWII, doing secret experiments and still want to reestablish a unified Germany, by all means.

The Pro-Commonwealth Army Lore will follow

If you were the one saying the Legion MADE Joshua Graham and Ulysses know that you're full of shit and essentially filling in a blank, or maybe not even that Joshua was with Caesar before there even was a Legion before he was Caesar. Technically four; The Knights biggest stronghold is Memphis, but luckily Memphis is right on the Mississippi border so we can afford some spillover.

I just liked the named "Northerner" because it's ambiguous. "Yank" seems to negate any relation between the player joining any pro-Confederate team, as its saying "this Union guy/girl has effectively won the war for us, yet the south is stronk guys we promise"

"North" is relative to the Gulf; hell you could theorize the character coming from out west if you wanted to.

There are other tribals in game anon; most of either joined up with another faction are in the process of being assimilated, or are getting the shit beaten out of them by the Damballah.

We naturally don't want to reveal a great deal about areas outside of our setting which haven't previously been covered in actual canon Fallout games.
Without giving too much away, it's highly suggestible that the Haitian Damballah are running away from something, rather than expanding an empire in the Gulf
>>
>>341805447
Yeah I get the general feeling of running away in your initial description of them somehow.
Not recommending any broad, lore-raping strokes. Just using the cuban missile crisis as inspiration for an alt-history events leading to a communist inspired caribbean tribe, however big or small.
Just started thinking after you mentioned haitians

>>
>>341807652
Enclave no. No Remnants faction because it would be too similar to NV, and no bullshit "reappearance" like in Fallout 3. The obvious reference is thrown about here and there, but it's much exposition.

No Super Mutants or Centaurs. All the Mariposa/former Master mutants will have to travel through Legion territory and Texas in order to arrive in the South, and we theorized none would make the journey. East Coast mutants need not apply, and for all intents and purposes, Vault 87 might as well not exist. We certainly aren't recognizing as canon.

No NCR/Legion for that matter either, namely because as I said, it takes place shortly after NV. Hoover Dam was obviously won by someone, and so there would be ripple effects across both factions as a result, leaving them to avoid heading to the Gulf for any purpose. The Kings make an appearance of sorts, namely a scavenger who is searching Graceland for memorabilia to sell to the Kings back in Freeside.

The BoS serve a rather large purpose to the game, but it involves a massive retcon to Fallout 3 and Fallout 4.

We started writing everything about three years ago, so we had no idea what Fallout 4 would change, and it's too late for us to go back on it now because the main storyline wouldn't make sense

>Outcasts win the schism war between Lyons and the Outcasts
>Therefore all this stupid shit involving "elder" Maxson in F4 doesn't happen
>The Outcasts pick up Wernher's signal, informing them that The Pitt is back up and running, in spite of the BoS earlier purging of the city
>Using this information (and the betrayal of Ashur), the Outcasts causes a deterrent in Lyon's BoS loyalty. They argue Lyon's new found sense of philanthropy is as a result of his guilt over purging the Pitt and leaving it in the hands of raiders.
>Lyon's, his daughter and many of the senor scribes are executed. Casdin is the new Elder.

Recently played Bison Steves casino quest mod. The end result is a bit shit to be honest, but it's surprisingly well done, and the voice acting is spot on.

If you don't mind some lore breaking, New Vegas Christmas Special is a great quest mod. It's long but not drawn out, varied and very funny. Certainly surprised me.

If you haven't played Autumn Leaves yet, I highly advise you to. Not so much in terms of shooting and killing shit, but its still very well done, and a great example of a "story driven" DLC.

>Why would the Fallout version of the US allow Asian immigrants?
That's like saying why are there Asian Americans in Fallout to begin with. Not all of them are going to be immigrants, and indeed as you pointed out, immigration is going to plummet.

>Why do they care about Great War era politics when nobody else in the universe does?
They blame everything on the Commies, and they see Asians and Ghouls are left overs from that period. Tribes and factions spur up from all over with old world vibes still as a contingency. The NCR for example aren't that far removed from pre war society.

>Why aren't the KKK more focused on killing the niggers from Florida?
The Klan in our period made a brief comeback in the 1950s during the red scare period. The red scare in Fallout last far longer than 10 years, and so it's just become common parlor to view communists with more hatred than blacks because they are the bigger threat.

The Knights WERE actually winning against the Damballah, but when New Dixie overthrew them and drove them to Memphis, they began pouring in again, and the Neo Confederates are struggling against them because of the Baton Rouge rioting and rabbiting on about independence. This is one of they key arguments that would sway the player towards the Knights.

Looks pretty awful, as a rule of thumb for me, any mod that directly adds locations like towns or settlements are almost always awful. Mods shine best when they alter stats, textures, NPCs or sounds/music. Weapon models are hit or miss.

I've never seen a mod that had impressive OC towns or settlements, its just too hard to create assets for that, and shoe horning existing assets makes it feel sloppy and breaks immurshun for me at least. they're also always horribly optimized or barren of stuff and details.

You can fix most of FO3 by making the purifier be basically magic in that it can start purifying the ocean or some shit. Or have it be that the riverways have altered their flow so that the goal isn't just "purifying water" like a technology that people should have at this tage and instead be "purifying fucking rivers and lakes and shit en masse" so that the environment can start to have a chance at coming back.

From there, you just assert that you need to be in control of the facility if you want to just let it cleanse water normally or if you want to "purge all the non-pure people", which should really just become that the Enclave puts something in the purifier that will fuck humans up if you don't get the antidote from them, thus enforcing Enclave control as an actual ending rather than wiping people out basically.

Once you sort out what pivotal plot point, it's pretty easy to fix minor things.

Sure, though my idea is more of a reboot using some concepts lifted from Fo3, including the Wasteland itself.

With the consolidation of the fifty States into the thirteen Commonwealths, the bigwigs at Washington eventually saw fit to tidy up various government bodies at the federal level as well. The then-president at the time decided to start with none-other than his cabinets, which became the Departments of War (War Dept., DoD, VA, State, etc.), Commerce (Treasury, Agriculture, Energy, etc.) and Law (Justice, Interior, etc.). The merger went horribly at first, and the resulting chaos nearly disempowered the entire federal executive branch. That all changed with the advent of the ZAX supercomputer.

To answer the bureaucratic clusterfuck of the departmental overhaul, the government installed three such supercomputers to manage the day-to-day diddling of each branch. Hundreds employees were axed overnight and jailed the next week when they tried to stage a formal protest. As later court proceedings would reveal, they were all communist sympathizers - so, officially, no loss there.

The supercomputer project worked incredibly well. The machines, from then on referred to only by there department name, revolutionized how Washington worked. As more and more power, processing and political was directed their way, the very character of the Capital itself began to change. Congress operated at unheard of efficiency and the military became increasingly adept at waging the Sino-American War. The Supreme Court almost became an afterthought in the wake of Law, who could litigate so well that even arguably innocent defendants didn't stand a chance. Government itself had become largely automated, and some spoke of handing the city's police and infrastructure over to their new robot overlords.

Just as they did so, the machines began developing characteristics of their own. Distinctly human ones, at that. One could even call them vicious. (continued)

It's POSSIBLE but it'd probably be a lot of tripcode wankery and IRC shit at one point or another.

Go ahead. I'm still reading. I think it's interesting.

Joshua Graham's tactical expertise consisted of "Take troops, run at enemy, never die because Mormon magic". Hoover Dam wasn't anything special. Just a lot of Legion troops in a small, confined space with only one direction to go in

The Second Battle is even worse because they definitely see it coming, don't do anything about it and the exact same shit slapping happens for a second time

This guy's right. Graham is noted as not really being a great tactician or anything, he was just brutal as fuck.

it would probably end up with a thread of everyone throwing together ideas, that and an IRC making a full design document, and a couple of actual modders working on either npcs or quests
Dunno how we'd go about a full overhaul though

Well, I reckon it can be done very well. It will be like old times of /v/ coming together.

We should probably keep a record of previous threads if we are doing this.

I would be happy to participate in ideas

Please don't spoil the surprise but is survival mode worth doing?
>>
>>341820284
What surprise? You mean the Cheevo?
>>
>>341820284
you mean hardcore mode?

it's literally the only mode worth doing
>>
>>341820004
It's easily the worst DLC because it's such a chore to play. The story behind it is a big part of Ellijah's story and the "moral" at the end is almost neat. I'd definitely say play it, but don't be ashamed to kick down the difficulty/save scum if you don't want to look at walk through and it's your first time playing it.

>>341819536
Eh. Stalker General made MISERY, albeit that became shitty.

Nah, the idea doesn't sound appealing but I'll try it out.
>>
>>341820284
The vanilla hardcore is so easy and adds so much more "role playing" and "survival" to them game that it should really have been the default.

War began proposing increasingly merciless and inhumane operations against, first, the Chinese. Then the Canadians. Then unruly citizens. Commerce began embezzling money for god knows what. Law had become increasingly arbitrary and court proceedings beneath it became exercises in sophistry more than anything else. Something had gone wrong.

No one ever caught on in time, however. Someone, somewhere, went nuclear. The world went with them. The Chinese hit DC with the fury of one thousand suns and the computers, deep in their bunkers, went offline.

The survivors of the initial exchange, hidden in the subway tunnels, the basements, and the bunkers of the Dead City emerged to find nothing but rubble and ruin. Their skin flaked off and, despite the horrible radiation and general devastation, they went on living in DC as best they could.

As the nuclear winter wore on, water levels in the Potomac continued to plunge. A great battleship eventually ran aground and what remained of its crew did their best to establish a defensive perimeter and work to eke out a living on the outskirts of the City. Tales of fresh water and vegetables, "advanced" medical equipment, and enough firepower to level a city block aboard the wreck spread throughout the Wasteland and people flocked to what soon became Rivet City. Rivet City, its influence waxing, soon founded the Riveters' Union, a network of towns in South DC. The workshops and foundries of the Yard, the mirelurk farms of Monument, and the half-floating fortress itself became a beacon of safety and prosperity in the middle of an irradiated hellhole.

To the west, acolytes of the Fallen Church pledged themselves to a new deity, Great Aton. They erected tremendous walls around His holy shell and spread His word throughout the wastes. Promise of protection for His pilgrims drew many to their holy city of Ba'am, and the Church prospered. Its missionaries enacted trade treaties in exchange for outposts, (contiued)

I enjoyed it, really liked the characters and the setting. Gameplay can be a pain in the ass at times though.

It's written very well, good story, good characters, lots of neat little moments that are very clever. The Sierra Madre has a good atmosphere. The survival aspect of it starts out cool, when you have nothing and are scrounging to get by. But they very quickly pile on some powerful weapons and armor and before too long you've got more supplies than you know what to do with, and at that point everything is very routine. The Ghost People are pushovers and are the only real enemies, so the combat sections become tiring. You can't sneak past them due to a bug. Some of the magic of the speakers activating your collar is lost, when you realize you can just sprint past a lot of them. Finally, the Sierra Madre vending machine really imbalances your base game.

It's still my favorite DLC

and His word and might spread further still, all the way up to the Great Mound in the northwest.

Six decades after the Great War later and sixty miles south of DC, the experiment of Vault 58 concluded. To those in charge, it was a resounding success. To the rest of the Capital Wasteland, it marked the beginning of an era of conflict and oppression. The newly established First Families of 58 ignited the slave trade in the region and began staging raids on outlying settlements. They gave rise to a new class of scum, a breed of raider more interested in human capital than raw loot - the slaver. Enclaves of slavers cropped up throughout the region, preying on the unprotected and marching them back to the burg, a sprawling slave pen and labor market encircling posh, painstakingly restored estates.

The threat posed by this slave army and the increasingly militant Church of Aton deeply distressed the Union, who began looking for more effective ways to protect themselves. They began sending research teams deeper and deeper into the city, where, after years of searching, they at last discovered a complex bearing only one word - War. They had found what they were looking for, or so they thought.

The excavation process was arduous. As they restored functionality to more and more of the complex, they had to deal with more and more of its automated defenses. By the time they reached the central reactor, their team of 24 had been reduced to a mere 7. Soon, though, it would all be over. They powered up the complex and, with it, the long-forgotten supercomputer it housed.

Many of War's above-ground sensors had been destroyed during the initial exchange, and those it had left painted a very bleak picture of the world above. The once-beautiful America had been reduced to nothing more than rubble inhabited by a collection of savages and squatters. Its attempts to contact Commerce and Law failed, and so it took it upon itself to right this awful situation. (continued)
