Odin Sphere and Muramasa are literally '2D Action/Platformers'. Platformer does not mean Mario clone. It means a game where you jump from a 'platform'. Which Muramasa clearly has all over. From trees to cliffs to the roof of buildings. Its in th same genre as Zelda 2 or Castlevania II.

Actually Muramasa is kind of the same way with its long stretches of flat areas where you fight with the occasional screen where you need to jump up some stuff to get to the exit.
I wouldn't consider either a platformer though. They're more like action rpgs.
