Sonygger here, from the few webms I've seen of it on /v/, it looks outstanding so far from a gameplay perspective. I love how there's multiple ways to deal with enemies without involving combat and home the mechanics seem to combine together in a shitton of possibilities.
However, for a game that's running on what's basically a beefed up PS3, the game is inexcusably ugly. The pop in at its current state is absolutely disgusting and I hope they fix it. If not, I'd rather they comprise and make the game world smaller and focus on polishing the good aspects of it. Also the combat still seems to simple for me, but I'm still impressed by what I've seen so far.I'm going to pirate it.

That was actually really cool until the bullet hell portion.
The combat was fast and the range of mobility was sick too. The gameplay/combat slowed down when she started shooting millions of orbs out in a pattern.
I'm sure there are other bosses who use this same mechanic in a better way, but if they removed that "bullet hell" portion, that game would be sick as hell.
But I've never played NieR nor have I watched gameplay of this game outside of this vid...so it's probably just this one boss in the entire game (or two)

Still, Gamepad works very well for other stuff, like inventory, or in W101 where it become another screen only when you go in building and caves. Star Fox Zero is the example where it doesn't work, since you gotta balance both the screen and most people have a lot of trouble doing that.
