I'm new to this stuff. I want to build a PC but I don't want to wait months until the new cards are finally ready. So is it safe to buy the RX 480 when it comes out or do I have to wait until people tell me if its actually good? Are there founders goy versions like with NVidia?
>>
>>341646407
RX480
Only idiots with too much money buy nvidia
>>
>>341647882
It's safe to buy the RX480
We have a couple of benchmarks and it performs about as well as the R9 nano.

Aftermarket cards will be available at launch.

Which one could be good?

Also what CPU would you guys recommend to go with the RX 480.
>>

Sapphire and powercolor are usually top tier.
xfx is pretty good too.
>>
>>341648379
FX8320E is pretty good and also cheap. Just overclock it and its really strong.

Good goy.

Nvidia likes to shit on their old cards while AMD helps their old cards. Just look at the gtx 780 vs r9 290x on launch and compare them to now, the 780 used to annihilate the 290x. Now the 290x fucks it in the ass.

Man I remember when Nvidia was the housefire card. The memes go in circles it seems.

dude the 480 is going to blow the fuck out of nvidia. why would you get a 980 when the 480 will do just about as much but also cost $150 less

How much is the 480 being listed for?

1070 is the only bad choice. It has slow memory which is crap. If you need high end performance by a 1080, or two 480s. In both cases you'll get better than with a 70.

Why is there so much shilling for amd? Its like cool crystals all over again. What do you guys get out if convincing others to buy inferior products? Xo you expect them to make a video cryinf about it or sonething?

Seriously, NVidia beats out AMD. 1070 beats everything on amd except their highest tier cards which arenr evwn out yet. The 1080 curls the 1070 into a ball and eats it. Dont waste your money on amd.

>>341651482
both 120 and 144 Hz are great, friend, especially with strobing.

DP 1.3 will bring about a new golden age of PC gaming.

> too bad we have to wait for Vega/GP102 to actually get beefy enough GPUs to actually do UHD@60+ Hz on newer games

I am pretty sure Undertale would run on integrated graphics, bro.

Don't forget about the FX8350 either.
People are already these processors off in bundles with motherboards and RAM for cheap so they can get the latest 6700k+motherboard+DDR4 ram. (which cost like £1500 so they are pretty desperate to get a few hundred back wherever they can)
All because they want to jump on the 4k/VR bandwagon.

For about £700 I got:
>FX8350
>32gb DDR3 RAM
>RX 270X 4gb
>240gb Hyper X savage SSD
>2tb 7200RPM Seagate HDD
>27 inch 2ms 75hz ViewSonic monitor with AMD freesync (for when I upgrade the graphics card for a 490)
>Corsair 750w power supply
>Corsair K70 mechanical keyboard refurb
>Technet M008 mouse with 13 programmable keys, omrom switches, and 1600 DPI (though I don't set it that high. That would be just insane)

Not a bad build for 1080p.
>>
>>341649728
The 780 was never able to touch the 290x. The hierarchy at the time was

Titan Black
780ti
290x
Titan
290
780

>>341651636
Reminder that Nvidia is not a consumer friendly company. They are a software company. They also have a hardware division that focuses on professional and corporate applications. Consumer grade hardware is just the garbage bin for them. They don't care about you, only your money.

>>
>>341652414
Do you not think it's wise to wait a few months and see whats out once the flagship reference cards have had their fun?
>>
>>341646407
GTX980 hits higher frequencies and does tessellation different. I've yet to see the actual specs so the RX480 may be a good bit slower. We have to wait and see
>>
>>341650873
>Evga for nvidia

My hombre.
>>
>>341652629
There will be no 490. Didn't your get the memo?
>>
>>341651540
>4k
4k is such a big fucking meme.

I can get behind silky smooth 120hz if your gpu is good enough for it but no important games run on 4k even with a 1080.
>>
>>341652414
>>341652629
There's still no evidence that the RX 480 is actually a 2304 shader cut of a 2560 etc. shader Polaris 10, just speculation.

Even if it is cut, the possibility remains that there just weren't enough pristine chips to make an additional marginally higher tier card, or it might be one of those "Apple bought all the highest bin" deals.
>>
>>341653061
Also keep in mind the problems with SLI. Microsoft's new console could also result in more higher spec games making the problem worse.
>>
>>341653301
And what about the fact that amd said the three announced card is the entire lineup for Polaris?
>>
>>341653061
The 1080 is a bait-and-switch joke played on consumers all expecting HBM cards this summer.

It's was overpriced and will get positively murdered by any 400+ mm^2 Pascal or Vega card within 6-8 months, which will reign supreme until TSMC and Samsung/GloFo can get decent yields on 600 mm^2 16/14 nm chips.
>>
>>341652246
I meant 780 ti, sorry.
>>
>>341653762
yeah, that should have been enough for any non-moron to accept that there won't be a 490 any time soon, but people keep thinking that there will be one in the Fall for some reason.

Nvidia vs AMD is a lot like the DRM debates.

Nvidia uses closed source, proprietary drivers and has even started introducing measures that make it more difficult to plug in your own drivers (or driver modifications). And in order to make sure you buy their cards anyway despite their business practices being blatantly anti-consumer, they are very aggressive about reaching out to developers in order to make sure games are performance-tuned using Nvidia cards - sometimes to the deliberate detriment of AMD cards.

Meanwhile AMD is... well, they have a proprietary closed source driver series, but they also have an open source driver series and they aren't trying to lock their card down in order to prevent user-end modifications. You can do whatever the fuck you want with it, and odds are good if they come up with a good technology they'll pretty much just release it for other people to play with. Remember: tesselation was originally an AMD technology, and the only reason Nvidia cards are better at it now is because AMD never tried to hide it. But now Nvidia has a bunch of closed source technologies based on tesselation and AMD can't do shit about it. There's a very asymmetrical level of assholery between the two companies.

Nvidia cards are like a really good game with blatantly "fuck you for purchasing this game" DRM. If you really want to buy the game, sure - but you should still be calling the people who made it a bunch of assholes.
>>
>>341654019
They need to put out their normal cards, then they possibly can make an oc'd 480x at best or a dual gpu card, and then bam it's 2017 and Vega.
>>
>>341653049
If that is the case, then I will save up a few hundred more and wait for whatever high end card AMD puts out in a years time.
(Or grab a used 290x/390 on the cheap to tide me over when the 270x starts to struggle on medium settings)

If I do get a 1070/1080 I'm not doing it anytime soon. I want to know what the best value/cooling model will be.

Or I'll crossfire two 480s. Depends on what actual game benchmarks will end up being like for all of this in a few months time.
