PC Gaming just makes sense, especially with Valve/Steam.
Consoles you buy all your games for one generation then they're worthless the next.
PC have unlimited life time.

There are plenty of people that have been account hacked that aren't giving their passwords out. Not to mention you're still at the mercy of their tos. So if Gabe goes crazy one day and decides to ban people for random shit then there's nothing you can do.
>>
>>341635752
False positives are usually lifted, unlike ea.

Only way to get hacked is if you install a program containing a virus............. so basically a child who doesn't know how to use computers and can't tell what looks dodgey.
>>
>>341635959
So basically if your wife or child get on your computer they could potentially fuck you over. There's a non zero chance of that happening for a lot of people.

>>
>>341633381
There's literally nothing wrong with being Jewish.
>>
>>341634080
not at all common. downright criminals and leeches on steam still get to play their games, they just get account restrictions that dont let them cheat people anymore.

Lately they've been upping security, which is annoying but also gives some peace of mind. I can't trade an item away without entering in the authenticator code off my phone, so it's virtually impossible to get hacked if you protect yourself.
>>
>>341636313
there've been no real cases of a virus that triggers a vac ban.. but there have been people who've hacked accounts, then purposely use cheats on them to get them vacced.

Valve's policy is to never lift a vac ban, but I've heard they do it often enough if there's enough evidence. The thing is most of the people who swear up and down they didn't cheat are lying.

The reason why it's in TOS is because SCOTUS set the precedent that consumers can't take class action against companies that had their clients / users sign a waver.

If Valve could legally charge its users millions of dollars under the pretense of buying some fatass lunch, they would.

I would argue that the agreement is exceedingly oppressive. Let's say you've bought games for 500 dollars over the course of 3 years on Steam. Suddenly Valve says; fuck consumer rights.
You can either accept the new conditions or you do not have access to the games worth 500 dollars. Now imagine you get banned for no reason with no chance to appeal.

except class actions are way too abusable to be considered a form of "punishment" to any company.

Just not that long ago, a huge class action lawsuit was filed against Subway because someone who bought a sanwich there measured it and found that it wasn't exactly one foot long (for you eurocucks, a foot is roughly a third of a meter)

see, one little kink of class action, is that when one gets files, any and all potential "Victims" need to be contacted and given an opporotunity to jump in.

A class action against something as big as Subway or Steam or Facebook could easily gander over 20 people, each getting a payoff in the end of like 200 dollars. In the Subway case, the 10 people who started the case only got 500 dollars each, and the law firm essentially pocketed the rest

>Valve's terms of service deny users the right to a class action lawsuit.

It's mostly because people actually assblasted enough by steam won't be able to afford a lawyer (as the lead plaintiff, anyway) to represent them.

Any lawyer worth their salt can get the judge to throw such terms back at the company's face.

They'd have to be a damn good lawyer to spit in the face of a scotus ruling.

you dont need to trust them because they are obligated to make stuff available because you payed for it

They reserve the right to revoke your licenses and service at any time for any reason in any part of the world. If Steam shuts down, they just revoke your licenses and they're done (unless one of them is within the refund period, then you can refund it if Valve's Steam shell company isn't bankrupt).

If I remember correctly there was a case were hundreds of account got VAC'd in MW2, I think it was some sort of hacked lobbies that gave you some malware, I dont quite remember.
Anyway those bans got lifted after a while and each victim received a free copy of then new L4D2.

You wish, anti-steam shitposter.

They can't revoke people access, if they payed for the service, for no reason at all. They gonna have lawyers and the police up their ass from all over the world when they shut down and just run away.
