Why is E3 dying? Will there even be another E3?
>>
>>341625865
It costs a shit ton and normal people can't get in easily
>>
It's a press only event.
The main show is the primary draw, the booths are pointless.

The presentations were watched by a few hundred thousand on twitch alone, so I suspect they are fine.

Video games are dying
>>
>>341625865
announcements were made, the rest doesn't matter
>>
>>341625865

>remove normal people paying to get into E3
>make it a press/invite only event

No shit it's empty.
>>
>>341625865
That looks really depressing. At this point the big names should just do their own press conferences whenever they feel like it like Apple and Google do.

Any even remotely big game gets a disc release though. The number of choices is shrinking.
>>
>10+ years without shit worth at e3
>why its empty!?
>>
>>341626906
so?
parallel to that its still possible to buy a digital copy
>>
>>341625865

This is the new generation Blockbuster. Enjoy it while you can. It WILL end up in a nostalgia thread down the line.
>>
>>341626609

It's always been press and business related only
>>
>>341627052
I don't think you get the implication. There are LESS games coming out now than gen 1 or so. It's irrelevant whether you like to buy digital or physical.
>>
>>341627168
No. It switched to that around 2004 or so, probably to keep out the riffraff. I remember the reactions to the news it was switching.

>why is E3 dying

It's not, E3 is an event for the press and famous youtubers. Normal people can not buy into E3, they need to have a media background as a streamer, youtuber, media outlet, ect.

E3 always looks this dead because its not open to the public and is open to only media. It's always looked this empty even since back in '06. It's just the fact that no one takes a fucking picture of empty space at E3 because there are so many other games and well this year there arn't that many good games announced.
>>
It's not 'dying' e3 is actually just for press now, back in 2007 the show made the switch from 'it's just for press wink wink' and common practice was to choke the convention hall with sweaty nerds so that coverage for the show would showcase the reach of the games industry- now if your not press you don't get in. And there are fewer press outlets than ever
>>
>>341627142
Is it being seen as too expensive to pull off for the big companies that hold it up/at least more expensive than a "direct" press conference would be?

>E3 is just about over

Just the rest of the day 3 stream, one more Giant Bomb post-show, and it's gone.
>>
>>341627929
Not really that believable. Maybe if video games were higher in 2012 or so and then dropped
>>
>>341627929
who the fuck searches for "video games"
>>
how trendy a nerd girl wearing an aperature labs shirt
>>
>>341625865
Same reason as last time it was abandoned. They can't do sexy booth babes or have fun anymore.
>>
>>341628214
Who the fuck searches for "anime" either? Apparently someone
>>
>>341627410
This. I remember in the 2012 e3 when they announced that the vita would use att for 3G everybody laughed at them. You don't really see stuff like that anymore.
>>
All they have to do is open it to the public. The whole event turns into a theme park that prints money.
>>
>>341625865
>Why is E3 dying?

The ubiquity of the internet mostly. In the 90's and early 00's, our primary means of getting info on these new games was magazines and TV coverage of conferences like E3.

Now every studio has a site where they can post pics and videos. Not to mention all the social media and shit. We can get constant updates of shit so E3 is slowly becoming obsolete.
>>
It's a press only event, and all the stuff worth reporting on it streamed anyways.
The booths are totally pointless since it's just game journalists. They grab swag and move on.
>>
>>341628898
This.
Gaming it's no dying just now you can watch stuff from home and E3 it's trash anyway.
>>
Is the age of mobil games coming to the west?
>>
more and more people realize that video games are for children and move on with their lives

You mean, "Took a picture of all of the empty waiting areas because people are actually looking at shit at E3"? fuck man, at least put some high quality bait.
>>
>>341629815
So what you mean to tell me is that after or during e3 when a game series isnt announced people just off themselves or buy socks to cope with the fact that half lief 3 will never come out/
>>
>>341628549
Probably people who don't know what it means. Everybody knows what video games are.
>>
There really weren't any surprises or big games this year. Sure, Zelda, RE, and a few others, but for the most part this E3 was kinda light.
>>
>>341629978
You are retarded. There's no such thing as "waiting areas". Where those "waiting areas" are now is where booths used to be. That's the point.
>>
>>341630345
Also people usually use the term "PC Games" or Xbox games

Not Video games for XY or video games in general.
>>
This was the most mediocre E3 ever. It would have actually been more intersting if it was more shit.
>>
>>341626906
indies more than make up for it

lot of them are shit but so what, so were a lot of the disc releases
>>
>>341625865
With the advances in social media and other new media platforms, direct marketing is more prominent than ever. Why bother keeping a renewing a really costly license and spending tons of additional cash on stands, recruiting, production costs etc., if barely anyone would care? People expect something big to come out of E3 from big major publishers and console developers, anyone smaller will get ignored, especially if you have barely anything to show. That's why Blizzard doesn't care, it has it's own conference. That's why Wargaming doesn't care, even though it has more stuff to show nowadays, than WoT. That's why Nintendo stopped caring about big conferences in favor of their own direct marketing video strategies. In the future more publishers and devs stop caring, E3 will either cease to exist or will be an event for Sony/MS/Nintendo/whatever other company decides to make a big console to show stuff.
>>
>>341625865
E3 started dying the fucking moment they made it an exclusive "media only" event.

You can't have a fucking culture without the people who actually like the fucking culture.
>>
>>341625865
Everyone was at the Zelda booth.
>>
Many smaller companies have been either bought out or gone under over the years.

Not to mention it takes way longer to make an AAA game than it did to make a PS2 game. So now companies will show up with less games.
>>
>>341625865
I think companies are going to spend less next E3, you're going to see a lot of empty rooms on the floor planning papers. Hopefully that means smaller companies can actually get in and buy a smaller stage room for their own conference so we get more announcements.
>>
>>341625865
>Why is E3 dying
cause they are too dumb to open the last 2 days to public at reasonable ticket price.
>>
eventually its just going to be the conferences and nothing else. the conferences have turned into some "state of the PS4/Xbox/Nintendo" type thing.
>>
>>341632493
>opening it to the public
>when it's already swamped to journalists
The line for Zelda was 8 fucking hours, and that was just with press. Making the event public would be infeasible.
>>
>>341632902
it used to be open to public

you don't get lines when you set up more booths which you can afford with the income from the ticket sales
