ITT: Places/parts in games that kill your desire to play the rest of the game.

Everything between getting the Dominion Rod and entering the City in the Sky in Twilight Princess for me. Half of the Temple of Time is an escort mission, followed by restoring the memory of some random bitch from your village that you're supposed to care about despite her having all of 5 lines in the entire game before now. Which is then followed by running around Hyrule just to move a statue.

The moment you hit the water-half of Hoenn in Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald/Omega/Alpha

>people will defend it
Fuck you.

What a fucking pain to get through.

>J-Just use Repels!
>You don't have to do all SEVEN routes in a row, j-just the first four!
FUCK. YOU.

FUCK HOENN. CUNTS.

The Undead Crypt in Dark Souls II
>mostly melee all game
>suddenly magic spam is all over the place
>witches and bell ringers make everything suffering
Literally the worst area in the game, and it's right before the final boss.

>crown dungeon is boring
>massive fucking fetchquest just to get into level 6

>mermaid suit is a nightmare to use
>afterwards go to the palace which is a nice break
>then off to the Zelda equivalent of Hoenn's water routes
>after fucking around in zora city for a bit it's off to the worst dungeon in the entire series

I have never been frustrated by this section of the game before. But I know this is a very popular opinion, so I guess I'm just the minority?

Not him, but Hoenn's pokemon variety was already extremely iffy, what with wingull/zigzagoon/poochyena being fucking everywhere. but now the final parts of the game are exclusively Tentacool/Wingull/Pelliper. As if we didn't have Wingull on 10 other routes

Pokémon games are known for at least some variety when moving from route to route. The terrain and environments tend to vary too, and you're never stuck in the same one for too long (excluding the default "grassy" path routes, of course)

So when you hit that part in Hoenn where it is NOTHING but Surfing, it can get boring really fast.

On top of it, you will have to backtrack all over the place looking for the nooks and crannies for items, and then again when you're Diving underwater.

Then the last three routes are effectively a single HUGE route that is covered in uncontrollable currents, meaning you will have to repeatedly fly back to the previous Town over and over again to get all the Items, and find the Regi cave.

The concept was fine. They tried to have a game that split between ground and sea, to emphasize Aqua and Magma's goals. Problem is, on land, there was a Volcano, plains, forests, and all kinds of cool locations. In the water half of the game, it was just... Water. There was that useless town with the Space Center, and Pacifilog Town (aka "fly back here and try again")

But that was it. It took a game that was fairly entertaining up until that point, and then threw all the variety and fun out the window.

Granted (and I don't mean to offend) if it was a childhood game, you could probably overlook this due to nostalgia. I've noticed tons of people tend to think it's not a big deal, if the games were big in their childhoods, whereas fans who grew up with Gen 1, 2, or 4, are more critical of it.

There's also this: >>341620976

So if you didn't use repels, you're stuck seeing the same Pokémon over and over again, and the remakes didn't even fix this at all.

I honestly really dislike the Region in general to be honest, although this is of course, heavily opinionated. I am hoping the new games can deliver the tropical Region that the franchise deserves, and I can forget about Hoenn for good.

I can understand the problem, I just don't want people throwing the things Hoenn got right to the side because of the regions one big flaw. We don't dscard all the things Sinnoh did right because of how horrendously slow the game is. We don't discard Johto because of the hilariously out-of-whack level curve. I think Hoenn brought a lot of fun Pokemon and elements to the franchise.

The beginning of Ocarina of Time. Not as much a problem in the 3ds version, but in the original, the painfully slow text is hell.

Technically it's just Pelliper but a lot of fights in the region in general LOVE Protect. I've never seen Phoebe's lead Dusclops not lead with double Protect.

I'll say this. Despite Hoenn being my least favorite, that route with the water stream through the middle of it, and the bridges, and the waterfall, and the tall grass and shit? Just before Fortree? Possibly the best Route in any game. Literal 11/10. Made my Secret Base there, before I realized how useless and time wasting Secret Bases were.

Hoenn also brought some quality designs to the table, like Metagross, Gardeviour, and Mawile.

As for Johto's level curve, I never minded it much, because they were having to cater to two things; freedom to do the second half of Johto in any order, and then still be progressing at a reasonable rate when you get to Kanto, which also allowed you to do it in any order. Could they have tweaked and improved it in the HG/SS remakes? Sure, although those games were so well made that they generally got a free pass from fans for its minor faults.

And Sinnoh being slow, I never minded. Granted I played Platinum, which I hear was much improved and faster than Diamond/Pearl.

The Hoenn waters though, were never really fixed. The OmegaRuby/AlphaSapphire remakes made Sharpedo have an increased surfing time, which was neat. I got to use a Sharpedo for the first time because of it. Problem is that replay value went out the window, because I wouldn't want to be forced to use Sharpedo every time, and I definitely wouldn't want to go back to the slower surfing speed for that part of the game.

But I appreciate your sentiment, that every game added good stuff that should be commended. You're right, and I wish more of /vp/ was like that, instead of saying "EVERYTHING EXCEPT MY FAVORITES IS SHIT".

have you not figured out that you can just run past everything in that level? Like, seriously, it takes maybe three minutes to get from the entrance to velstadt's room, and that's assuming you don't stop to light the bonfire. The closest thing to an obstacle is the imperious knights, and they aren't even that hard to get past.

Ehh to each is own. I love all three of them and replay them yearly. But it's understandable that they're not for everyone.
