How did Nintendo do at E3? I remember a month or so ago, /v/ was predicting the death of Nintendo because they were only going to show one game, but do you think it worked out in the end?
I didn't watch every conference, but I hear Nintendo only won with one game because what they showed was actual gameplay.

I still say it was fucking stupid for Nintendo to not do a presentation of some kind, and they shot themselves in the foot by only showing drawn out treehouse footage instead of giving some kind of shortened overview, but despite having said metaphorical hole in their foot they managed to pull of a good show with Zelda
It's pretty remarkable how they managed not to crash and burn. They weren't nearly the laughing stock people thought they would be.

Main presentation was barebones on Zelda, and boring with Pokemon. The stuff they shared outside of said presentation (RH Megamix stealth launch, DQ7 release date, Oasis game that looks nice) went much better.
They haven't changed. They showed a new Zelda which copies the modern AAA titles with open world and Souls combat.
Pokemon is only for the preestablished fans because they know the audience will eat it up. Not showing the NX was a good idea.

Nintendo had 1 job and that was to make a fresh new design akin to MM and try to capture 3rd party support so all their games aren't Mario, Zelda, and Monster Hunter rehashes. This is coming from a Wii U owner too. Why even buy NX when you can play the same Zelda game on Wii U, and there will probably be no 3rd party support for the NX since they're still making it a "family" machine. Seriously, Nintendo should've done some ground breaking work but they all but lost any chance of other non-nintendo games coming to their platform

A Zelda game you can beat without getting the story seems interesting even though I'm always invested in the titles for the narrative.
I actually enjoy the open ended equipment system, they've been giving us weapons dropped by the enemy since Wind Waker and seeing it put to more practical use makes me wonder what other types of weapons I can expect.
I also hope the game isn't just a love letter to the original, but gives a nod to non-Ocarina or LttP titles as well such as Zelda 2. The active jump is a good start, though many are quick to reference Link's Awakening for that.

I was expecting something competently made. I wasn't expecting something this well put together, a contemporary feel but free of the pretensions and apologetic nature of modern video games.
The other stuff Treehouse showed off like the new 3DS IP was pretty fun too.
