2D is the sweet spot. but doing it in HD is something I've never seen anyone do right. All the HD 2D games look very flat, with simple cartoony art styles. Have a kind of flash look to them.

Miriam, the menus, lights, enemies, bosses have a purple theme. It's pretty ugly. Then on top of that the backgrounds are grey.

A lot of people don't seem to mind this but to me, coming from playing great games with tons of variety like SoTN, they do get stale and it doesn't help that Vanillaware games(like Wayforward games) are pretty fucking mediocre in general.

The boss itself in a stage just as highly stylized would work .But here the contrast with the stage makes it not so.

Here the realism doesn't ground anything, quite the contrary it clashes with the style.

Given that I've said the game itself looks good, just get off your high horse.

That I don't like the overall washed out color scheme is secondary. That clash in style though, I think is pretty jarring. They're going to have to harmonize things one way or the other. I'd prefer all stylized myself, but I'm not going to let a preference in artistic direction get in the way of a good game.
