It's pretty fun anon, probably the only worthwhile early access game I've seen yet.

There's a fair bit of janky stuff you'd expect from an incomplete game, not everything has a decent model in, etc. Environments are nice and pretty complete

Yeah, op, it's really good, and it's fucking scary if you have aquaphobia like me. The sounds in the game are unbeliveable, and they're adding monsters that are bigger than your fucking house. There's already massive fish in the game though, plus there's fucking all sorts of cool shit you can make.

I sometimes go so deep that I start to hyperventilate and I need to look around my room to remind me that I'm alright, but just as a reminder I'm a huge pussy when it comes to underwater shit.

I spent a good while roaming around the unfinished underground magma zones. They're huge and very easy to get lost in, but have nothing in them yet. Very spooky.

Give it a pirate first and see if you like it if you are worried about money, don't forget steam also has a refund option.

It's really only tense one you first start playing.

I got it pretty early in development and the updates have kept me coming back to check it out now and again. Comes somewhat at the risk of your saves becoming outmoded.

It's fairly intensive to run processor wise and can grind a bit when it's trying to load dense areas, but that's apparently being worked on. I'd say it's probably worth the 20$ if you can see yourself playing something like this.

Look up some gameplay footage, I guess.

1. can you die from explosive decompression?

2. can you die from rapid compressionfrom diving too deep?

3. can you initiate a Delta P scenario https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEtbFm_CjE0 where uncovering a drain causes you to get sucked in, creating a perfect seal drowning you?

4. can you get the bends

5. are there sexy mermaids?

Life is Hard does that. It's okay. I like being in the early development stuff. It's fun.
>It's fairly intensive to run processor wise and can grind a bit when it's trying to load dense areas
I am legitimately pretty dumb at computer stuff. My one friend put my PC together for me, though I picked the build out myself and all, and I'm sure it'll run it it fine.
I like the trailers adn what I see in this thread, and it's been on my wishlist I got my PC built actually. I don't have many friends so I figured this thread would be a good way to check it out.,

>>341599214
Do normal people seriously do these weird ass equations every time they see something they're curious about?
Why the fuck do they seriously think people are going to spend 10 minutes staring at water system wondering about getting sucked in and running different equations. How would you even find out the PSI unless you asked some guy working there?
God I hate math. I'm actually a little glad at times for the brain damage.
>>
>>341601047
10 minutes of math vs 30 minutes stuck in a pipe as tons of water crush your body and you run out of oxygen and die
>>
>>341600507
just stay away from holes
>>
>>341598278
Oh man I'm so excited for this. It looks so cool and spooky
>>
>>341601047
delta p is well known phenomenon and it's hardly a weird ass equation, you experience it in a bath when you clog up the drain
>>
>>341601172
Or, like, let a professional do it like you probably should, you know?
Or maybe I'm just being stupid and having brain damage by thinking I should be supervised at all times with things like that, that I or most wouldn't be trained for, or any of that. I don't think I or most would be able to know the size of the chamber as well unless told.

>>341601294
Pretty much. Holes and water are usually always fucked. Sucked in, ripped apart, crushed, bitten, maimed in some way or dead.
>>
>>341601413
I know, but I meant the size of the chambers, and volume and such. If you were just going scuba diving all tourist like and shit I don't think you're going to know all that stuff. I don't think most people are going to be doing that math. I know most people even tell me fuck algebra. It's not worth trying to learn unless you're into science they say.
>>
so what do you actually do in this game? just explore and build a base?
>>
>>341600721
Engineers are the definition of "it works fine on paper". They have zero concept of real-world situations or human interaction. They just design shit in the most efficient and economical way possible. Engineers are more dangerous than a Muslim in a gay nightclub.
>>
>>341601728
Pretty much, you need to explore to find blueprints to make tools, submarines and base add ons.

Story is not yet implemented.
>>
>guy goes to clean drain>cleans it and gets sucked in
Wait wasn't the suction part turned off?
That seems like it should have been turned off for maintenance. Or something.
This Delta P shit just sounds like a lack of a professional smart person.
Thank god I'm aware of how stupid I am and that I need assistance. These accidents are kind of funny in a way.
Like that guy who put a bong or whatever on his stove top and got impaled by the glass.
Or those [people who freeze things filled with water and didn't think it would break. Or putting oil or gasoline next to a generator thats running a small building.

>>341601883
This is true. They actually don't care about safety. They just want their money for drawing. Assholes. Just like 90% of doctors.
>>
>>341601938
Arent there hints toward the ship crashing because of an alien force? And something about all of the fish/animals being genetically modified humanoids? Or is that another game Im thinking of.

anyone tried it in vr? recently ordered a vive but it only works with occulus right now ive read.

crusin around the shallows is great untill all the sea life dies off suddenly
>>
>>341603634
I think this was mainly due to gross negligence, the diver went in alone when nobody was around and didn't take care to avoid the drain, which he probably didn't consider a threat because he didn't realize it doesn't take a huge amount of pressure to form a powerful seal. Hell, I wouldn't have expected a pool that's only 10 feet deep to have suction of that strength, but now I'll know to avoid even the smallest of drains and pipes if I go diving.
>>
>>341601423
you should never dive around machinery or mechanical systems that you are unfamiliar with. Those equations ARE for the professional divers who have to service those things, since your average person would not have access to that kind of information.

If you are a recreational diver, dive in open areas and avoid pipes, intakes, water basins, and drain systems.
>>

>>341604381
I've always been very weak physically. I learned when I was young if I fall into water that is deeper than my waist I'll probably end up drowning. So I've always figured since water is so heavy it would make sense that it would knock your legs out and pull you under if there was a hole. Kind of like rapids.

>>341604480
I would say avoid that even if you aren't diving. Don't know what it is, stay away. Do you see animals hanging out by it? No? Well there you go.

>>341602215
>all of the fish/animals being genetically modified humanoids?

>>
>>341604804
I think the most important thing to take away from this is that diving is incredibly dangerous if you don't know what you're doing, if you ever go diving make sure you listen carefully to any instructions and take things slow.

As things are, the player is immune to anything pressure related.
At worst it makes you drain your oxygen faster.

This leads to comical situation where you leave your submarine and carry on with your flippers because the submarine can't go any deeper but you saw some shiny shit below.

Devs have said this is temporary and the first thing they'll implement is decompression sickness.

So far current only exist if you set a current generator.
It's clearly a placeholder to test the device and current as a mechanic, so expect to see natural currents and maybe delta P if the engine can take it.

It's not spooky at all, it's actually incredibly comfy. The only minor source of stress is managing your O2 adequately. Sure, there are big spook monsters out in the distant depths, and some dark caves, but you literally don't ever have to encounter them unless you go looking for them. The water is ultra-clear so you'll pretty much always be able to see the bottom unless you're over a pit or the edge of the world. Hell, you can even build a base on land atop the floating island if you so please- if anything, dicking around in the safe shallows you spawn in & slowly venturing outward is one of the best ways I've personally encountered to get over my fear of water almost entirely & get comfortable with the concept. The only parts that still stress me out are the ones I mentioned above, which are deliberately designed to be stressful no matter what

>>341598148
I hate these things just because I had a base set up in their biome & suddenly the next update added them in. I go out for a swim & get attacked by some fuck I've never seen before...

At least they've moved the Leviathans from the shipwreck to the distant sea now so you don't get raped anally trying to explore

>>341598278

1: No. They'll probably add that to hardcore mode though.
2 & 4: that was initially coded in, you can enable it as a cheat (allows longer diving but ascending too fast fucks you up) but by default, no

The Sea Dragon, along with several other monsters, can spawn in open waters and in the Void outside the map, but it's very rare for the former. The place you will encounter it is in the Inactive Lava Zone and Lava Castle.

Experimental Mode, but it does have most of its animations and abilities at the moment.

I've been lurking in a lot of these Subnautica threads. I have to say, it seems really interesting, and I'll definitely get it once I have a new PC, but I wish the creatures of the game didn't look so non-threatening. I mean, I'm fine with the bright, colorful fauna, the game would feel a bit lifeless without that, but just imagine if something like pic related were in the game.

So i was wondering, I started playing this and the low frame rates and the amount of pop-in is almost unbearable, however in any YouTube videos i see from this game it runs just fine. Is there any way I can improve the game quality? I even tried running everything on low and still looks like shit. Can't understand, I got decent specs
>>
>>341596105
It gets boring really quick though. I mean, its a nice exploration game, but once you got the cyclops and took a tour over the map, you're basically done with the game. Survival and sandbox aspects are nil.
>>
>>341613378
The story's not in place and the game's not finished yet, of course there isn't much to do outside of exploring and bas-ebuilding.

>>341613289
It's not optimized yet, the Youtubers playing it tend to have very good machines that can overcome the problem, but even they have hiccups.
>>
>>341613289
there's not much you can do aside from putting the game on an ssd. dev says he's planning on fixing it soon.
>>
I'm installing the game now on PC. Do you guys prefer playing with a controller or a mouse and keyboard? I'm usually a mouse and keyboard guy.
>>
>>341614056
Mouse and keyboard. I dunno how it feels on a controller but I had absolutely no problem with M+KB
>>
>>341613289
I heard the terraforming right now makes the game check to map for any editted terrain so it keeps making pop in happen, that's why they're gonna take out terraforming.

That's one reason, another is they don't want anyone screwing up their game by getting stuck or something by burrowing through the game map. Unfortunately it means that one particular creature, the Rock Puncher, is going to be on the back burner until after the game comes out.

How deep can you go, and how much spooky shit is down there?

When does the new bigger monsters get added?

>>341617946
As deep as you can, I usually do it in the cyclops and first your alarms will go off as it tells you you are reaching crushing depth, the announcer in the subs becomes this creepy guy telling you you are too deep, you then begin to take on water and you can hear your subs hull bursting open, you will lose control of the sub when you go to deep and take ont o much water and the sound will become silent and you hear nothing but the water gushing into the sub, you then lose power and finally lose control and begin to freefall like I did in pic related.
>>
I hope this game gets modding capabilities when its done because then people could optimize it to be suited a bit better for a horror setting.
>>
What percent complete is it now? I always said I'd pick it up when it was

>quite complex

I have the game and love it but it's woefully shallow and there's not a lot of content to dig through. It might seem overwhelming at first but after about ten hours it becomes pretty clear.

Like I'm not a developer or anything but if I was making a game like this I'd task someone to make at least 1 or 2 cosmetic items a week. Not only would it give the impression of significant updates but it would also genuinely give players more customization options for their base, more things to explore for, more things to show off.

As it is right now they add 1 or 2 medium to significant updates monthlt, with some little things sprinkled in. Once you build a base with all the key elements that's basically it.

>>341619001
Seriously the voice turns dark and creepy in the sub? I play the game but I've never dealt with that before.

Indeed.

Games can offer relaxation and ways to escape from reality, but it comes at a price.

>Looks back and realizes just how much of life was wasted playing addictive video games.

>>341623462
Did it, it's not a dark or creepy voice, it's just the deep masculine voice the Cyclops AI now has. Maybe that anon updates his save everytime rather than create a new games on update, but I couldn't tell any difference between the voices.

it might be a rare thing, one time I got into my Seamoth and it said "I like you inside me"

never happened again since, I assume it has a stupidly low chance of triggering

Sorry, it was "I love it when you come inside me", according to the 2-3 other reports I've seen of people who've encountered it

In hindsight it's hilarious but at the time I was shocked because it was so fucking unexpected
>>
>>341624861
It was taken out I think.

A shame, Seamoth a cute
