Being a "gamer" lost all meaning a long time ago for a few reasons. Gaming is mainstream, and because it's so common it says nothing about you anymore. As well as that, we have the girls who noticed this was a primarily male hobby, and so they pushed their way in on it and used it as a status symbol rather than as a way to signal to others with mutual interests. Then this shit started pissing off normies who were proud of their 'gamer' title for playing 40 hours of CoD a week, so they started shit flinging about what a "true gamer" is, when they barely know anything about video games beyond whatever is heavily marketed or played by ecelebs. Finally, all the moronic political shit that these 25 year old reviewer losers are pushing on video games to make up for their lack of personal identity.
All of that shit together just makes it easier to say "I play games of X type" anymore. Being a gamer these days is basically just calling yourself extremely irritating.

I'm 28 and when people ask what I do I tell them I play games. I live at home and play games most of the day. Right now I'm getting in to CRPGs and I play a lot of CSGO, Rocket League, and Overwatch.
