Fan demand is why the Koopalings came back in the first place after being retired for like 20 years.
Bowser Jr was meant to be a universal "one-man" replacement for all seven of them, but he was considered shitty in comparison to the "long-forgotten" Koopalings by all the gamecubebabies. Didn't help that the spin-offs of that era kept forcing him, like the Rosalina of his era.
Of course, now that they're back, they'll never go away. Enjoy your seven wasted boss/playable character slots wherever applicable.
