If you need Monster Hunter to run as well as possible you need to go for a N3DS.

The I have a 3DSXL, N3DS, N3DSXL, and 2DS. They 2DS is super comfy and the d-pad and buttons are more springy and soft.
As others have said, the non folding is what holds it back and only two games are N3DS exclusive.
2DS is good for the price.
It is genuinely Nintendo's last GameBoy.

new 3ds would be the better choice as general loading is cut by half or more and a few games are exclusive or outright run better on it.
2DS however is like $80 new now with mario kart 7 digital and would at least run all but a couple games exclusive to the new 3ds.

3D anything give me a migraine the size of Texas. But if I were to buy one I would buy the 3DS because it folds and just turn the 3D off. I want to find the person who designed the 2DS, without 3D and cheaper, and punch them in the face. They knew exactly what they were doing. They took out a key feature they didn't need to as a middle finger to people who don't want 3D or don't think it is worth paying extra money for.
So my friend is gonna give me his 2DS, Omega Ruby, and charger for 70 bucks.

If you plan on getting a pocketable one, get an N3DS, not an XL. If it's for home or throwing into a bag or backpack, get the 2DS.But the 2DS can feel pretty flimsy.
